Just got these two Western Barlow's from the Voyles online auction. With that tang stamp I don't know the date.

Here is a John Primble that I finished today. Repaired the Main blade, and rehandled in home-dyed bone.
Not my best ever, but I still like the look of it!

Ivory handles . Frame and bolster are all one piece construction .
Hard to read the tang stamp but I believe it reads
INNC
CENT.

Any help dating and the maker is appreciated .

Mike
I’ve been checking this thread to see if there was a reply to your post, maybe try a stand online thread, it’s a very old and interesting knife.

I asked several historians of early cutlery and all were in agreement of late 1700s to mid 1800s .
I knew it was old but didn’t realize it was that old .
Yes I was surprised to get no replies here and thank you for yours .

A Barlow (my first) was added to my collection this week thanks to the March Forum Member Knife Giveaway organized by member bestgear and with the knife donation from member Sasquach. The Barlow was an extra in the delivery of the Case Bose Tear Drop, and is much appreciated. Thank you bestgear and Sasquach,

A few days ago I saw a SABRE Barlow made in USA on the bay, said it was new and apparently no one was interested in it, less than $5.00 + shipping.
Did a bit of research here on the forum concerning SABRE brand knives and waited for my prize to arrive.
It arrived today, nothing special but a solid cheap knife. Was halfway expecting a shell handled knife but the bolsters are solid but not NS. The "walk &talk" is good. The clip blade was difficult to open because the nail nick was almost covered by the pen blade. There was a patent number on the pen blade, 3,317,996. This number revealed this SABRE was made by Colonial. The knife hasn't been sharpened and should take a great edge as do most of the old Colonial knives.

Lowered the pen just a hair and the Clip is easy to open.

We'll sharpen it and carry it a time or two and then maybe give it to an interested youngster.

Thanks treefarmer, doglegg, toomany. Appreciate the mention and here are a couple more from the OKCA show. A 77 Barlow, believe an SFO by Mike Latham and a 15 TC Barlow by Charlie Compagna. Then more pics of the Ulster sawcut.

That’s a beauty John. Nicer stag on that one than most stag Case knives.

If you've only got the one, you've got a very nice one.
