A steel supplier on another forum furnished us the steel to make a knife with the condition that we put it in the hands of a soldier going over to the sandbox.
Spec Ops furnished the sheath, and yet someone else furnished the dog tag knife.

I had the steel ground by a bud.....I'm not there yet, but I handled it with Wenge, and I also furnished the Gerber Multi-tool.

I would like to present this to someone myself, so they would have to be located in the Michigan/Ohio/Ind. area.

Please let me know if you know of someone.

What kind of steel did you use? My son lives in the Ohio area until he goes to boot camp on March 31 - actually he leaves on the 30th. I plan on making a knife for him - I just need to the find out what steel types so make I can make him a knife.

He wants to go to Iraq or Afghanistan after boot camp. I'll make him a knife - there are several steels that would be nice and hope he never has to use it.

I have some CPM D2 that seems like a excellent steel to make a knife with.

Very nice. And an excellent gesture on your part.

You might want to check with your nearest Special Forces Reserve unit. Yeah, I know, I'm prejudiced. But, someone in Special Operations would find this knife more attractive and useful than someone in another military occupational specialty.

Someone, however, is going to be very proud of that knife.
