Care giver for my Mom

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Bless you for caring for your mom. It’s difficult when our caregiver roles reverse, but when things were frustrating it always helped me to remember all that my parents did for me. Treasure the time you have with her.

Hi everybody,
Just wanted to give you all an update on my mom. I think all the prayers are working. She has been living with us for over 2 years now. Here dementia has gotten somewhat worse but not as much decline as the doctors thought it would be by now. She turned 96 in February and physically she is doing well. We do have a caregiver come in and help her with different things a couple times a week my mom seems to like the interaction with the caregiver. Thank God. At first, she was very agitated now she looks forward to her coming in to help out. My wife and I are trying our best to keep my mom with us and not in a nursing home. I have to say the doctor is amazed that at 96 my mom only takes blood pressure medication and can still getting around so well. I still have breakfast every morning with her, and she eats dinner with us every night. She is still living in the apartment in the barn and loves the independency of somewhat living by herself. Sorry about the long story but it feels good to talk about it sometimes. I have to say my wife is a saint through all this and it makes caregiving somewhat easier. I have enclosed a picture of my mom from her birthday.
Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers.

It is so good to hear how well your mom is doing. I think that staying with you as long as possible helps her greatly.

Great thread, thank you for sharing your journey with your mom. My wife and I took in my FIL when he was 81. It was great having teenage boys grow up with their grandfather in-house. He turned into my best buddy and when we lost him 9 years later it probably hit me the hardest. Those were some of the best memories of my life and even though he was called home in 2018, not a day goes by that I’m not reminded of him. RIP Dan.
