If you end an eBay auction early when there are bids, you'll be charged a fee equivalent to the final value fee you would have paid had the auction ended normally and sold to the high bidder.

I’m 100% against AI descriptions because they are almost always 100% wrong. If you aren’t sure about a knife, it’s provenance or authenticity, I always recommend full disclosure in a seller written description to be totally honest to a potential buyer. The AI descriptions have become a sellers excuse to allow a bad description like yours (it’s a folding blade, not a fixed blade) to exist.

Good luck!

Just contact the winner of the auction when it’s over and let them know you have doubts about it being original. He or she might already know it isn’t authentic and wants it anyway. If not, then you could re-list it with a better description after you cancel the transaction. That is what I would do. Hope this helps.

The posted knife is not original. It is a vintage fly fishing knife, but the two Keen Kutter stamped blades are modern blades "cold stamped" with the Keen Kutter logo. So it is a "cobbled" knife with fake restamped clip and pen blades. The rest of the knife is original, but I have no idea what the original bradn is/was.

That's a good idea I'm going to do like you said and notify the winner of the auction that I have my doubts it's if it's original and let them decide what they want to do

Yes, the knife certainly does not look like a pre-1941, E.C. Simmons Keen Kutter. Blades look very modern with fake stamps.
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

you’ve now had a few subject matter experts (Steve and Wayne) tell you that the knife is a fake and your going to wait until a buyer commits to a purchase before you tell them it’s not what they bought ::shrug:: I’d be pissed if I was the high bidder. To me, that’s the definition of bait and switch. As an eBay seller with 8 feedbacks, your reputation is important if you plan to resell estate sale knives in the future on that platform. YMMV

What I have done is try to revise the listing before I even asked any questions on this thing talking to you. And I believe I even mentioned that on here. I don't really understand how eBay works. I don't know a lot about pocket knives. And I don't believe every opinion to be the truth., Including yours. After I tried to revise the listing and it wouldn't let me I read in the eBay rules on what to do next and it's telling me that I shouldn't cancel the listing. Anyway if you can explain to me how I notify bidders at this point I'll be happy to do it. But I don't know how to do it.

And to be clear once the auction's over I'm going to notify the purchaser that if they don't want it they can have their money back that's the point. I'm going to notify the buyer that I don't know for sure if that knife is original. But everything you're saying about me is the definition of assumptions to me. I have no intentions of keeping somebody's money if they don't want it. eBay is telling me if I canceled the listing at this point they're going to charge me fees for doing that. eBay is also saying that they don't recommend canceling any auctions

The buyer is not going to commit to a purchase if I tell them at the time the auction's over that I'm not for certain if that knife is original. I'm not very good at putting things into words but I feel like I made it clearer I'm attempting to do what I think is the best thing. So you can keep your definitions and assumptions to yourself.

Just like your original message responding to when I said I'm going to notify the winner of the auction and let them decide what they want to do. Meaning if they don't want the knife they don't have to keep it. Maybe you got a little confused by what I mean.

You said you don't know about knives or ebay and yet you are trying to sell KNIVES on EBAY.
Seems to me you should educate yourself in both before "jumping in the water". ::handshake::

You say you don't know much about Ebay and much about pocket knives. I think you are setting yourself and others up for a bunch of trouble. There are many posts here on AAPK about people getting scammed by Ebay sellers misrepresenting products because they don't know what they are doing and think AI will save them.

bids with 3 days and x hours left in the auction.
It looks like it has an "AI" description.
The description says it is a fixed blade.

the auction had ended with zero bids ::nod::

When I search for it on eBay it says “This listing was ended by the seller on Wed, Mar 12 at 4:25 PM because there was an error in the listing.” So it appears he figured out how to remove the listing. Good on him!
