I store most of mine in the boxes they came in. Of not, where would I keep the boxes?

The bottom drawer is deep enough. You could put boxes in it.

I opted for Pelican cases with foam cutouts. Figure it keeps the elements at bay and is a convenient way to keep them reasonably safe and secure.

I just got another knife storage system, of sorts. It works for an ol' Redneck like me, anyway.
I found this cassette tape storage drawer at a thrift store for $3.99
My full-sized Sodbuster or Buck 110 neither one will fit, but anything smaller does. My Remington Bullet knife just barely fits. It even holds a 3-bladed Electrician's knife with a bail!

The old cassette storage cases work nicely but l would suggest lining the slots with cloth to avoid having the plastic out gas and destroy the knife.
To the person using the Pelican case with the foam liner: l would not let the foam come in contact with ANY knife! Foam deteriorates much like celluloid. Nuff said?

Well, it started with a cheap case for about 8 knives that I got off amazon. As my interest in collecting grew, so did my search for storage options. I’m not one to want to have them displayed, I wanted something safe that would also protect. I opted for pelican cases with the foam inserts from nalpak, I have one large one for most of my modern folders, and a few mid to small ones for my traditionals. In my opinion they’re worth the money. I don’t add to my collection much anymore, (my wife says thank God). I’ve added a case for the grail slip joints since taking this picture from our basement, i have two additional cases since then. I have a big plastic container with a water tight lid that I keep all the boxes and COA’s in. It’s gotten a little out of hand LOL…

Its been cold and snowy up here on the Northern Plains, so time to go thru boxes of knives and check, oil, and reorganize. Found one that was outgassing, but it had been segregated so no collateral damage. I had a pile of small jacks and pens that was difficult to locate anything in when I needed to find one thing. Redid it with a plastic box with compartments that will accept knives up to 3 and 1/4 inches long and a heavy cardstock index inside the cover that can be read with out opening the box. My wife looked at it and said "that's just like a box of chocolates".

Toolboxes work well for knives, Mike. I got one of those felt lined wooden toolboxes from Harbor Freight that I use for some of mine.

Cool idea, Reverand! I never thought of cassette cases. I have a few of those, but I still have cassettes in them!

It's a utility box for craft supplies and so on with movable dividers. Works great for small knives with only 1 problem, getting out the one individual knife you want. I find I can reach in and pluck out the one I want with a small magnet.

Interesting thread. I've been keeping some of my knives in Plano brand Prolatch Stowaway storage boxes that you can find in the fishing tackle aisle at Walmart. Made in the U.S.A. They're made for the storage of fishing lures etc. They are compartmented and come with inserts which adjust for length. The label easily peels off.

I suppose I'll use this thread to show you what I've been doing lately with my knives. I now have over 1,200 knives and Cheryl has proclaimed "no more wall, cabinet or shelf space for knives!" I already have wall and shelf space in almost every room and my old jewelers cabinet that I refinished several years ago didn't have room for even one more penknife. So I ordered some knife display/carrying cases that hold 40 knives each. So far I have 15 of those filled and they stack nicely on a closet floor or the bottom book shelf in the office. I'm arranging them by brand like these Novelty or Souvenir knives; All Schrade and Walden knives. I have one hard side like a gun case with four levels of foam in it and I put my oldest; most expensive; or sentimental knives in it. Also my jewelers cabinet now has lots of room for new knife purchases!!!

David, I hate to tell you this but knife storage rolls and cases like the bottom two in your pictures can, and eventually likely will, damage knives. Outgassing chemicals from the elastic and/or other materials damages the nickel silver and brass components of knives. You think everything is okay - until it’s not. Then it’s too late. The resulting corrosion and pitting it causes is irreparable.

I’ve personally experienced the tragedy and there are numerous similar testimonials from others in posts here on AAPK. BTW I sympathize with your predicament. My wife also has taken a “no more knives” policy. (Fortunately she thinks all knives look alike, so I manage to occasionally sneak in a few. ).
