The abbreviation "No for the Latin "numero" was commonly used as paper was expensive so numerical lists used abbreviations. No one seems to know how the Co evolved. The French form is Cie. (Just some idle research on a cool and cloudy day). O'.

Thanks for the info Ridge. The use of abbreviations back then makes sense. Also heard printing was expensive in the early years of printing.Ridgegrass wrote: ↑Wed Dec 18, 2024 9:31 pm The abbreviation "No for the Latin "numero" was commonly used as paper was expensive so numerical lists used abbreviations. We're toasty here by the Atlantic, been in the high 50's and 60's all week. Due for a drop by Saturday. The Solstice is then. Can't wait for the days to get a little longer each day. Thanks. Merry Christmas. J.O'.
