Pictured are the two Wards cattle knives I have. They dont look much like the one in the OP, cattle knives USUALLY have an awl blade. You might note that the two I pictured have two very different looking awl blades. One is a Camillus like one with the spiral grooves, the other is the Utica type awl. Note that the one in the lower picture has had a replacement clip blade made and installed, so not original.

The harness knives you may be thinking of are harness jacks which have a blade and an awl opening from the same end.

I'm far from a Camillus expert, BUT, I don't get the warm fuzzies from any pocket knife blade where the long pull goes clear down into the tang. Maybe it's just my issue.

Unusual to see a nail nick that goes all the way through the tang. Looks the other blade has been shortend as well. Perhaps a spey or sheepsfoot at one time and broken. The jigged bone doesn't look like Cammillus jigging. Maybe an earlier knife contracted by M. Wards to Empire or NYK.

Yes the one blade had been broken and reprofiled sometime it’s life and I had been told NYK before couple times. Dates from Goins says 1920-30 for the stamp but I have been told much earlier according to the long pulls through tang?

Stamp that is on each of the blades. Goins says 1920-30 but I have been told could be earlier as the long pulls through tangs are an earlier thing. Thoughts on that?

Could it be that the blade blanks were stamped out for a different knife or blade pattern but then substituted and ground to fill a shortage? Or perhaps reground and used from an overrun?

Sorry forgot to reply and use to own one myself, I consider them a cattle knife for sure!

I do not believe that to be the case in the matter, but who can know something like this for sure? But I don’t believe so

Sure looks like a cattle knife, as is this 4 blade Wilbert.

Your tang stamp has the full Montgomery Ward & Co. marking, the one I showed has just WARDS. Different maker. different era?

Your tang stamp has the full Montgomery Ward & Co. marking, the one I showed has just WARDS. Different maker. different era?

I am wrong about date, what I was told and happen to look for myself and dates same as yours. 1935-50.

They're all pretty old ,and I think Clark's is very old , and I like them.

In doing some looking thru my knife books to see if there was a time frame for the different tang stamps, the Richie & Stewart book show Montgomery Ward, Chicago stamp from 1928-present (meaning printing of the book which was 2007), and the WARDS USA as 1935-1950. Also I should have noted that the WARDS cattle knife I pictured above with the spiral awl has steel bolsters. I always wondered if steel bolsters indicate that the knife is older or just cheaper made than nickel silver bolstered knives in the same time frame?

Here's the same stamp as the OP knife.It's a lockback hunter etchef "Hunter's Favorite".I also have added a picture of a Northfield of the same pattern that appears to be a match.It's also etched "Hunter's Favorite" with a different font.

I think the blade on the Ward’s is the best. I liked swedge better on the Wards. Harold
