That Robeson Automobilist’s Knife is super rare. Depending on where you got it, it is only the second one I’ve ever seen.

Not sure what the “spoon” type blade was for, but it might have been a gouge, but what it might have been used for, I don’t know. It’s an early knife meant for use on early automobiles, not sophisticated ones of today.

The hook looking blade is thought to have been for adjusting the gap on spark plugs.

Beautiful knife.

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this, multi-tool pocket knife, with a PREST-O-LIGHT key. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my multi-tool, with a PREST-O-LIGHT key, pocket knife collection. It is a UTICA, eight tools (a wire stripping blade, a screwdriver, a notch for tack removal(?) or opening a cigar box(?), a cap lifter or bottle opener, a PREST-O-LIGHT key, a can opener, a corkscrew, and a glass cutter), three tool stamps, 3 5/8" closed, all metal (except for the two "tortoise" handle scales), multi-tool, pocket knife. It is also a cigar cutter. The PREST-O-LIGHT key's square opening, measures approximately 3/16 of an inch. The main "blade" front stamp says, "UTICA CO (over) GERMANY" The main "blade" back stamp says, "D.R.G.M." The can opener tool, front stamp says, "UTICA CO (over) GERMANY" D.R.G.M. stands for Deutsches Reich Gebrauchsmuster. Basically, German Reich Registered Design. This is my second, multi-tool pocket knife, with a PREST-O-LIGHT key. My other multi-tool pocket knife, with a PREST-O-LIGHT key, was previously posted, under this topic or thread, back on Wednesday, November 20, 2024. The main "blade" does have a SOFT half stop. The main "blade" does have a GOOD opening snap. The main "blade" does have a GOOD closing snap. The can opener, the corkscrew, and the glass cutter, ALL open and close with no problems. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all.
I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Skip, I think the little notch along with the screw driver is also meant to be a cigar box opener and puller for the little nail in that secures the cigar box closed. Several very early 1900's knives had these. Cool knife.____Dave

Recently, my visit to the post office produced this figural, advertising, cap lifter or bottle opener. It was included in a group or lot of NON-CUTLERY related items that I purchased. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT purchase the group or lot to obtain this particular item. However, it DEFINITELY did turn out to be a keeper. It has been added to my cap lifter or bottle opener accumulation. It is a COCA COLA, 3 1/4" long, figural, advertising, all metal, cap lifter or bottle opener. It is ALSO a "PREST-O-LIGHT" key/wrench (3/16" square). It does have a hole for a lanyard, key ring, etc. This cap lifter or bottle opener is shaped like, and the main side depicts, a baseball player. It also says, "PAT'D 8-08-14" The other side says, "CANTON CITY COCA COLA BOTTLING CO. - CANTON CITY, OHIO - drink COCA COLA" This figural baseball player, cap lifter or bottle opener design, was patented by John L. Sommer. This figural, advertising, cap lifter or bottle opener, AND "PREST-O-LIGHT" key/wrench, is in VERY GOOD condition. This figural, advertising, cap lifter or bottle opener, AND "PREST-O-LIGHT" key/wrench, did NOT need any cleaning. I just wiped it off.
I took some pictures and here it is.

I found this knife in a pawn shop in Rochester, NY. Finding the Schrade Cut Co. Walden NY tang stamp made it very intriguing. I paid $5 for it and commenced to researching it on-line. A google image search came up with this 1926 Schrade Catalogue. This was the only reference to this knife that I could find. On page 10 was my knife. My knife is the 9039GSIL version with solid nickel-silver handles. Since my original post I have learned that the wrench is likely for the valve on an acetylene headlight. Also that chain hook is likely for tire chains. I have no idea how rare this piece might be or how long they were made. I do love finding these old NYS made knives.

As someone who has been putting tire chains on for nearly 60 years, I am curious about the "auto chain hook" blade would work. Has anyone had any experience on its use?

I honestly do no know what sort of chain it is for. I was given that piece of info and it seemed feasible. The hook tool, to me, resembles a tool that I use on a bicycle chain but I do not know much about the mechanics of autos from that era. I am pretty sure it would be of little use putting the chains on my pick-up.

Very interesting and unique old survivor. Since the description in the 1926 catalog says “auto chain hook”, that puts it in the days of the Model T Ford and similar vehicles. Unlikely the “auto chain” from 1926 resembles those of more recent times. (May be we have to expand our perception to include other possible kinds of “auto chain” beyond just tires)?

This ol’ Texas boy is not familiar with tire chains of that or any other vintage, so I too am curious how it was used. I defer to those from more snowy environs.

It is ALSO a "PREST-O-LITE" key or wrench (a 3/16" square hole). It does have a hole for a lanyard, a key ring, etc. The main side of this cap lifter or bottle opener depicts a nude woman. It also says, "C. T. & O. CO. PATD. - CHICAGO" The other side only depicts the woman's head and arms. The advertising says, "C. B. ARNOLD'S CRACKER JACKS FUN FOR ALL" This figural, advertising, cap lifter or bottle opener, AND "PREST-O-LITE" key or wrench, is in VERY GOOD condition. This figural, advertising, cap lifter or bottle opener, AND "PREST-O-LITE" key or wrench, did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
