Ya know…
This is a pattern that could be revived, and be a very useful, and desirable blade for EDC.
Right now, I’m imagining a few different configurations. Made with modern materials, and a contemporary design ethos (in several different genres).
I could see it with a mechanical pencil—so getting standard size lead would be easy.
Compact “tactical pens” are a popular item, the design could use the readily available refills.
You could do a military/tac version. Heavy duty, tac appropriate materials and colors.
A “Bushcraft” version. Different blade, firesteel…
A SAK style, with a variety of tools.
An “auto” ala Mikov or Kalashnikov.
A “Gentlemen’s/Executive” style. Sleek, classy design for the office. Abalone scales… the works!
Or you could add a pen/pencil to a “Leatherman” multi.
And add a value priced, “blue collar” version, made for the tradesman.
Now that I think of it, I can’t believe this simple, useful concept hasn’t been picked up by one of the larger makers. Esp. Victorinox, and Swiza, and the like—that already do multi-purpose.
Or are there any makers that I’m unaware of, anyone know of a modern knife of this type?

I’m seeing a few different ways to mount the pen/pencil tool as well. It could fold out, or slide out like an OTF. Be mounted in the handle, or be a part of the scales… lots of ways folks could think up, I reckon.

The “Bushcraft/Survival” version could be a fixed blade, with the pen tool mounted to or in the handle.

I also see a “Tech/Urban” style, ala Boker’s “Urban Trapper” or “Tech Tool” where the pen tool would be replaced with a stylus for tablets and computer touch screens.
