Ever seen this happen?

Post by tvic »

Note the sliver of blade that broke off this Kershaw flipper. It broke off cutting an apple! :x This is the knife I always took on my hikes.

That's a KAI blade too. ::facepalm:: You could reprofile it, but it will take some work. ::nod::

Must have lost its temper or the heat treating from the start was bad - time to put that Kershaw Limited Lifetime Warranty to the test Tim: https://kershaw.kaiusa.com/warranty

Never seen that before. But if it was mine, it would be on the next flight to Oregon.

Get ahold of Kershaw, I'll bet they'll replace the knife.

I tried to fill out a warranty form, and it won’t accept the model number - probably because it’s discontinued - which stinks! I’ve probably had it about 20 years, but rarely actually used it. As for biting into the apple, yes I did - and came out with a sliver of blade in my mouth! Luckily, no damage to me! ::nod::

When I was a kid we had a new Kinfolks fixed blade that broke in half when it was accidentally dropped on the floor.
The sporting goods store was hesitant but replaced it.
Hopefully Kershaw will do what's right.

Wow, that is a sizeable chip!
My guess is that it cracked earlier on something harder, then broke loose on the apple.
I have sent in a discontinued knife to Kershaw before. There were some parts that they did not have, but they installed new screws and spacers, and polished and sharpened the blades.
It might be that they will have a blade for yours, but if not then they cannot repair it.

That is a relief Tim, hearing that you came out of everything unscathed ::nod:: ... ::skeptic:: When I was a kid we were afraid that some nut-case would put a pin or a razor blade in the apple he gave you, so you could take your treats to the emergency room and have them x-rayed for suspected foul play. ::paranoid:: Looks like maybe you should consider doing that if you continue to use Kershaw brand cutlery for food processing .... ::shrug:: Just saying .... ::paranoid::
