What kind of knife might this be

I was wondering if anybody knew what kind of knife this is the it's sharp except for the cutout wonder what it could be used for besides a prop it looks like actual tool though

That's a good question ? Is the edge also in the half round groove ? Don't know why I'm even asking, just curious. Looks hand made. How thick is the blade ? Spine? O'.

I've seen pocketknives with a clip out of the blade like that. It happens when they are used a screwdriver, and a section of the blade just snaps out. I had a Remington scout knife with a clip out like that and many thought it was a corn knife, used to cut corns off your feet, but that story is doubtful. Just an improper use of the knife. I don't know on that bigger knife but maybe along the same lines and they tried to use it to pry something loose. Only a guess.

just thinking, maybe a prop knife, does your wrist fit perfectly in the hoop?
(is the hoop section sharpened?)

Without having it in-hand, based on the pictures provided I agree most likely someone used it as a pry bar or nail puller, and a piece of the blade broke out. Knives are hardened steel, and brittleness is part of that equation.

They’re made for cutting but too often are abused by folks trying to use them as screw drivers, pry bars, hammers, and other tasks for which they are not designed or intended. Then they too often blame the knife for failure to perform.

I saw a tool described as a "painters knife."
The "blade" cutout was described as
"Able to remove paint from paint rollers with half round cut-out."

If the cutout is perfectly round, it's probably definitely intentional. If it's not, it's probably as Bob posted.
