Without question a fake.
There has never been a authentic MSA stamped toenail. They only exist in old Marbles catalogs. No matter what you hear, they were never produced.

I disagree,I`ve handled 1 that was owned by Mark Zalesky.Well worn stag MSA.It was 100% original.Mark at one time was a big collector of Marbles.I do agree there are more fakes than good ones ,but real ones do exist.Another stag was in Scott King`s auction.It too was also well worn and from the pictures it too appeared right.

This is more of a question than a post but it pertains to Marbles knives.I have a couple of small watch fob sized knives stamped simply "MSR USA".I was curious if they could possibly be contract knives made for Marbles.They are pearl handled bolsterless pen knives.Here is a picture of the tang stamp;I will dig out pictures of the knives and post them later if necessary.Any info would be greatly apreciated.

Ray, I have seen this stamp before, I may even have one somewhere. I personally do not believe it has anything to do with Marbles.

Goins Second Edition lists a MSR USA with no info.

I went back and borrowed some photos from Scott King's toenail auction a couple years ago.Here's a well worn stag MSA toenail. Pin for the pen blade has been replaced with a nail.Still in this condition it brought just over $2600.

$2600 is a lot of money. If real, not a surprising amount. You don't see many knives in that worn condition with such clear stamps. Looks a bit scary to me.

Here are the best pics I`m able to get of the tang stamps on the toenail I have.The condition of it is somewhat like the one Peanut posted,or a little worse.I`m certainly no expert,but any I`ve seen,or even pictures of,that I thought were legit,had Gladstone misspelled as Gladestone.I`ve seen only one where it was spelled correctly,with bone handles,that could have been made that morning,It looked that new!

Bill the pen blade on Scott's had the same stamp as yours.

I had heard the Gladestone spelling somewhere else, can't remember when. Those knives certainly have a Case Brothers look to them.

Thanks, kind assessment. Last December went to a local auction. They advertised 300 knives ,turned out there was over 3000. Estate of a retired farmer who must have vacuumed up about every knife he ever encountered. There was everything from absolute junk to some really nice knives. I filled a plastic tub with the ones I was able to get. It was the sort of sale knife guys dream of. This toenail was one I made sure to get, recognized it as a unicorn.
