Joseph Hepworth Sheffield knife

Here is a knife I found today at Nebr Junk Jaunt. It had been roughly “cleaned” if you could apply that term to it. It’s 3 7/8” closed. Appears to have ivory scales. Main blade mark is not readable. Second blade is “JOSEPH HEPWORTH SNIG HILL (?) SHEFFIELD”. I found reference to Hepworth and Pilley but not just JOSEPH HEPWORTH alone. Anyone have any info on this knife?

I believe Hepworth and Pilley were both merchants, not manufacturers. Their partnership dissolved around 1882 and Hepworth remained in Snig Hill until around 1900 so the knife probably dates between 1882 and 1900. Not sure who made the knife (probably stamped on the main blade but all I can make out is "Sheffield") but it's a nice one!

Thanks for the info. It’s too bad it had gotten rusty and pitted the blades, not much blade loss from sharpening.
It’s the only knife I have with ivory scales.

I think it's in great shape in spite of the pitting. That's a beautiful old survivor there!
