SOG Rare Edition

I have a SOC flash tm 1 serrated blade pocket knife. I think might be quite rare because I can’t really find any pictures of the exact knife. The logo areas on front and back are a raised plastic and say “SOG Specialty Knifes Inc”. On the back of the blade it says “Pat. Pend.” which implies a very early version.

Any assistance on evaluation would be appreciated.

back of the blade has a Patent No. not Patent Pending and it has been discontinued

Yes, very similar. Placement of the flash 1 is different as well. Still thinking the one I have may be valuable because it seems rare. Have any idea if their are any serious SOG collectors. They had a website and were very active a few years ago, but it is now not operational.

I’m sure I’m being Captain Obvious here but rare doesn’t always mean valuable.

I don’t know anything about rarity but the blade has lots of wear (oddly only on one side) and the thumb stud appears to be missing.

Even if it is rare, I have to assume that a collector who might be interested wouldn’t pay anywhere near as much as he or she would for the same model in better condition.

I wouldn’t expect the value to be enlightening but I hope I am wrong.

I used to set up every now and then at a swap meet or gun show and I had several of the SOG flash knives (used/and new), they were terrible to resell, nobody wanted to pay any money for them. I stopped buying/trading for used ones. Case and Buck you could sell all day and SOG made in Japan was in demand, but the SOG flash knives were duds in my town.....

My observation has been that SOG knives are strange beasts. Some command rather handsome prices while others are largely ignored. There really isn't any rhyme or reason to explain why some are sought after and others are not. For whatever it may be worth, I've seen a lot more Flash II models for sale that the Flash I. As previously stated, condition plays a huge role in value on any knife.

Nice catch on the thumb stud. Not being much involved with knives, I would never have noticed that.

It could be a prototype, but even if it is, in the condition it's in, it's not going to be worth much.
