Harness Whittler?

Post by Owd Wullie »

IXL, "oil the joints" era. Appears to be horn scales, couple of small repairs on the back scale.
Slanted bolsters, neat lil shield.

Blades in pretty decent shape

Get the old loupe out and look for the pores.
If I am not mistaken, IXL used some of each on their knives. This is a relatively costly pattern so I will bet on horn. 8)

Willie,

Nice knife!

It`s an Equal-End Whittler, with a punch blade.

Many different pattern whittlers came with punch blades, but they are not very common to find today.

The handles appear to be Patterned Celluloid. ::nod::

Upon closer examination, I think it is probably celluloid. I scraped the repairs and lo and behold, the price just went up. They weren't repairs at all. It scraped off and the scales are perfect under whatever it was that was stuck to them.

Got that lil darlin for $15.01 and freight. ::ds::

Probably sharpen it up and carry it for a spell. ::tu::

Nice Cattle Knife, O.W! Built with wedged backsprings, and slanted bolsters, it is a class act.
I'm with the celluloid people, and a great pattern it is; never seen it before!
I call it a Cattle knife because it is
a) equal end, like the majority of cattle knives, and
b) because it has a spey blade.
But I think we all agree it is a wonderful pocketknife!!
Utopia!! A chicken in every pot!! And a Barlow in every pocket!!!
