emailed this seller as to point of manufacture and date. he replied-

"These knives were produced by the German company, WestDePac, at their factory in Islamabad during 1989. this company imported all their materials from Germany, utilizing the lower labor costs. in 2000, they closed their factory there and moved it to Beijing where they now make the knives for Case, Remington, Winchester, Browning, Stanley, and many other brands that people believe are made in America. Hope that helps. Stanley."

I emailed also and got no reply. I did tell them that in no way was it a Bulldog Brand knife as they claim in the description.

I also said that there is no way on earth that this is a sowbelly Blade and that it is a clasp knife. In fact I told them I had the outer cardboard box that said Old Smoky clasp knife OS-23 made in Pakistan.

I have the knife beside me, grinder marks, cracked burnished bone, pitted blade and bolsters and all the rest. I offered to send pictures, box and all, I've never seen German parts like that unless they were out of the reject bin.

It did have a $22.95 price tag on the box at one time, but it is basically a $10.00 knife, the only good thing on it-it has decent snap. That's all folks!

Maybe he is right about Case, that would explain the quality going down hill. Anyway, this knife is pure junk and why is it described as a Buldog Brand in the description, AN OUTRIGHT LIE! I mean the guy only has 78 negatives in his feedback. I believe the seller is not telling the whole truth, gilding the lilly, so to speak. I keep one for show and tell, show it to a guy like this and they RUN!

what can we do? nothing. one sold for over a hundred dollars recently. there will always be someone to sell junk to.
now to his claim that case knives are made in china. i personally don't believe this. recent case knives are not as well made as some of the chinese knives i've seen. i know, blasphemy. this poor quality leads me to believe case knives are made here in the good ole u.s.a. mass produced by workers who don't care as much about quality as much as the next payday. not all of course. but enough. case knives have been reduced to "costume" jewelry status. queen has taken the place of case in the premium knife market and rightly so.

like hukk says, this not a bulldog brand knife. it is, however a copy of the case bulldog clasp knife.

Not saying anything wrong with this one but here are some facts. Starting bid 69.95.... description suggests retail price of 159.95. Trevor Ablett is a small producer of quality knives (not many left here). You may buy this very knife direct from the main distributor for about $40.00.

As for as dimensions go it is an EXACT copy, I know, I measured the one sitting on my desk. Any other resemblance stops there.

CASE?

1989 Huh, No Bulldog Brand knives were made between 1987 and 1993. Second Generation knives were put together in 1992 from left over first generation parts. 1989--NOT!

If anything the seller said was true it should show up in the quality of the knife. As Hukk says, and anyone that has handled one, this knife is junk and feels like junk.

Also if he was on the level he would have appreciated finding out the truth. Someone buys this knife, then thinks all bulldog brand knives are junk, far from the truth. I also would like to comment about the seller that says and I quote. "I am not an expert so you decide what it is and bid acccordingly". The seller that says this and then does not respond to someone telling him the straight of it is no less a crook than the other one.

He is just covering his butt and trying to save his feedback rating.
It is great that this site is trying to help things get better. I appreciate being a part of it.

I think we are doing all we can do, that is inform each other of sellers to watch out for and also inform as many others as possible. Other than the obvious things that are wrong with it, I found it amusing that he is calling it a Sowbelly, and correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there are wood grains in the handle. Like PA has taught all of us...READ THE KNIFE

Originally this knife had burnished bone, it now appears as if it was passed under a torch and polished out and buffed.
