wood or bone
I just bought a nice Case elephants toenail but I have looked closely and really can not determine if the handles are wood or bone. Is there some simple way to tell without doing damage to the handles???
Thanks
Thanks

Re: wood or bone
Most likely (99%) it is wood - there are bone handled 6250's with the CASE XX USA Stamp, but they are VERY rare.
Post photos and I will be able to tell.

Re: wood or bone
I have owned this pattern before with wood. The wood usually looks faded after years of exposure...these handles are bright and shiny like new although the blades show age...
Thanks Steve

Re: wood or bone
I've never seen a wood handled toe fade.If it did, something likely chemically affected it.
Plus I have seen only one bone USA bone toenail over the years and it was definitely a re- frame.USA blades put into a bone handled frame.

Re: wood or bone
If the last number is 9 it is bone, wood is 7.
