here is an american cutlery 4" congress. this is a chinese knife. the bone was typical of all chinese knives i have experience with, brittle, square with no charactor. one sde broke in half when i dropped it on the carpeted floor. hence my first rehandle of a folder. i was interested in redoing a knife but was unwilling to possibly ruining one of my precious knives. yea china.
the blades were out of kilter when closed. you had to open one blade to open another. i adjusted the kick on the blades to even them out and give the closed knife a lower profile when closed. next i cut out the frame and bone to access the small blades. i file worked the back springs and re-assembled. all work done by hand. bone is stained black and rubbed to give a kind of appaloosa effect.
i had a lot of fun learning how to repair and customize this knife. i know it does'nt compare to some of ya'lls beautiful, professional work, but i'm pleased with it. i have several other knives and some nice stag slabs as well as some mammoth ivory for my next projects.

thanks, bill. regardless of some imperfections in my file work, i had a lot of fun. the file work is tedious and tiring. i have a lot of respect for some of the artisans on our sight. the handles are a lot of work by hand and i was very pleased with the results i got. anyhow, for my first one, i don't think it turned out too bad.
