Case xx Midnight pearl knives

I've had these knives for a few years....The knives are 130 in a set of 4500..... One knife 92033B....the other 92042 B
From the first limited edition by Case Collectors Club wouldn't mind seeing another set!!

Hi, I just registered an account as I have been going through a collection of about 50 pocket knives my grandfather had before he passed away. I know nothing about knives so I have been researching each one online (for the ones that have identifiable information) and that has brought me to this forum a handful of times. Lots of info!

Anyway, I just wanted to add that I do have one of those Midnight Pearl sets - #1100 of 4,500. If anyone has any thoughts about what I should do with it and all the other knives, I'd be very grateful. Would anyone be interested if I took a picture of all of them, or would that be of any use to determine value? I have a few that seem to sell on ebay for over $100 so I'll probably look to sell those individually, but then I'll still have 40-45 more to sell. Kind of overwhelming when I don't know a thing about knives. Thanks for any ideas/help!

Welcome to AAPK. I understand how inheriting and dealing with your grandfather’s collection could be a little overwhelming. You’ve posed several questions I will try to answer.

Unfortunately the only “shortcut” I can offer is to save yourself the trouble of researching them one-by-one and sell them in bulk to a dealer. The dealer is not going to offer or buy them for the amount you can get by researching and listing them yourself. A dealer (there are several reputable ones who are members here) will be assuming the risk and doing the work - it’s how they make their money. You will be taking a discounted amount to save yourself the time and effort.

You could simply list the knives one at a time on eBay, without doing a lot of research. Start the bids at a low price, like $.99, let the auction run 7 or 10 days, and the bidders will find the value for you. You’ll still have to take good clear photographs of each knife, post the auction, package and ship each item.

eBay sold listings are the best source of current value. Do an advanced search of the item, for sold listings only, to determine the value. For example if you search for “Case midnight pearl knife” you’ll currently find a set of two knives like the set you have, offered BIN for $189. But an advanced search of sold listings will find the exact same set sold recently for $100, and a single knife (not a set) sold for $48. Although we’d like to see your knives, you’re more than likely to be referred to eBay sold listings for values. viewtopic.php?t=77592

Or you could look at it as a learning experience. You might even get interested in knife collecting yourself. At the least I’d recommend you pick one or two nice ones your grandfather had, and keep them to remember him. He must have enjoyed collecting them! I’m sure he’d be pleased if you kept a few as heirlooms.

Thanks for the advice! My siblings and I definitely each took a couple of the knives as keepsakes (and they turned out to be some of the lower value ones anyway). I think I'll probably end up selling a few of the more expensive ones individually and then selling the rest in bulk to a dealer, knowing that I wouldn't be getting full value but that really isn't my goal, which is just to get rid of them without being totally fleeced.

Thanks, guys. My sister and I have begun the (tedious) process of researching each knife and listing a handful of the ones we have found on Ebay, trying to use past sold prices as a starting point. I'm sure we'll swing and miss on a few but a couple of them have a bunch of watchers and one bid so far, so hopefully that means there's a market. I can see at least one we'll probably need to relist at a lower starting bid.

In the meantime, I was able to sell some on here to an interested party and anything left at the end I'll sell as a lot. About 20 of them I was unable to find any identifying information about, making it impossible to look up values, so hopefully whoever buys them gets lucky and maybe there's a gem I didn't know about. I'd have no issue with that as I just don't have the knowledge and someone who deserves it more can have it. Or maybe they'll all be "commons" as they say in the baseball card business.

My sister's Ebay profile is mizl426 if anyone wants to check in from time to time to see what goes up. Thanks again for the info and input.

My experience is starting at previous sold price will get lots of lookers but starting it off at .99 get more bidders and better price.

Good call, I could totally see that working. I don't know anything about Ebay or auctions so my sister is in charge of setting the starting bids - if they don't work, we'll relist and let the bidding roll!

Rivers611,, Just a hint for what it's worth but on eBay you can revise to lower the starting price so long as there are no bids. Doing that would possibly eliminate the need to relist.
