I see the 1950's cars in all the colors except for the ones on the left.
Was that Ford or Plymouth?? and what model ?

Here is a celluloid Imperial advertising knife. I wish my insurance company gave away such nice little knives!

Okay here are my Imperial celluloids and shell handles. The yellow one has lost its main blade, and is a bit sad, but was my grandfather's knife.

Alright they aren't Imperials, but they are celluloids. These are all Camcos. Orvet- Your little advertising knife reminded me of some of mine.

Here is a Schrade Walden that Glenn will recognise. I got this in a trade with Glenn a while back. Nice little knife. the blades aren't dark, it is the effect of the scanner.

This is a great thread

Let's see if we can keep it going for a few more pages. I don't look for celluloid's to collect, now every now and again one finds me.

I will dig deeper in my collection for more celluloid's. In the mean time, here is a Power Kraft, made for Montgomery Wards. I am not sure if the handle is celluloid or an early plastic & I don't know who made it. Do any of you know who might have made it? Unfortunately it is missing the shield, and I don't think I will have much luck finding one, as this is the only Power Kraft I have seen.

Ummm... a little before my time, I'm afraid. I wouldn't want to call anybody else out, either

I think maybe Imperial was using a little artistic license for a few of the colors...perhaps they weren't trying to duplicate car colors, but just the "style". I mean, you look at them, and you immediately think of the 50's.

At least, I do...

Glenn, I have admired those tutones before and always love seeing them. You know, Bernie Levine thought highly enough of the 'ink pen' lobster by Imperial to have it on the cover of one of his books.

Here are three colorful, real celluloid toothpicks. 'Star' brand on top, that old Schrade Cut again, and a Remington Bullet by Camillus.

Also offering a few of my favorite celluloid color which is abalone. Knives shown are 'modern', by such diverse manufacturers as Frost, Winchester (Blue Grass Cut), Henckels, Bulldog. It does not take a lot of money to buy a beautiful knife, I think these will prove to you. From this pic can you tell the difference between the $9 Frost and the $100+ BlueGrass?

Bill that is defiantly NOT a 1950's oil rag.
I can tell by the stitching that’s a 1990's oil rag with W/D 30 oil on it.

I have had trouble locating these in decent shape. They do come up on ebay every now and then.

These shell handles are alot of fun to collect, they are pretty readily available, and alot of collectors pass them over.

That one is not celluloid. It is genuine heart abalone. That one is made from a shellfish, no plastics there.

Those Shorties are great!

Here is my newest knife of the day. I went to a tool store where some knife collectors meet every Wednesday morning. I guy pulled out this knife and we were discussing it. He had seen a few Schrade Waldens & Imperials I brought. He commented, "You sure seem to like that old Imperial & Schrade stuff. You better keep this knife, & save me the trouble of cleaning it."

James, I have an Imperial similar to that, with a tropical scene, I think it says Florida or something on it. Did they paint those scenes on afterward or were they factory???

Glenn, I don't know if the scenes were factory or not. I can't really tell by looking. The scene is only on the front handle. I would really like some information on the old Imperials. I wish someone would do a book about them with lots of pictures and accurate information.

I have to go to the VA doctor next week & they love to peddle pills. I take two handfuls/day now as it is.

Does any know much about Keen Kutters? I just bought one on fleabay and am awaiting delivery. It is a Barlow....I kinda like Barlows.

Unfortunately, I don't think that historians find the Imperial brand as "sexy" and interesting as the Schrade brand. I mean, it took Schrade going under for any thought of a "major" book to surface. Who knows, maybe that bodes well for Imperial, as their histories are kind of intertwined. The best we can do right now is to look at the info in old catalogs and such.
