dream knife that they do not make

Everyone who likes pocket knives sooner or later comes up with an idea of what would make himself the ideal pocket knife.

Many years ago I bought a Schrade (non-stainless) 3 bladed stockman model 610t. It was 3 7/8 long and long and slim and light. The only problem was that it was not stainless, the blades were not mirror polished and the scales were utilitarian Delrin.

Now when Schrade went out of business and the name was bought and the production went to China they did not resurrect (to my knowledge) the long slim trim 3 7/8 model 610 t.

Now I have been buying up other stockmans and they either prove to be to big and heavy and the blades to wide or there are the other models that have blades too short that do not have enough cutting reach.

What I would like to find is a 3 bladed stockman like the Schrade 610t with stainless mirror blades that are also slim and trim that make for a light weight easy to carry knife.

I would also like fancy scales, say like abalone or pearl.

I would like the blades to have half safety stops in them also ( half closing stop).

It seems as though most pocket knife makers that make knives that are affordable to the working man simply all copy the same styles that have been around for years. Not much new or innovative seems to come along unless it is a gimmick like a built in clock or l.e.d flashlight. Now I wear a wrist watch as do most people and I have a cheap little flat led flashlight on my key ring so for me buying knife with such things is more of a gimmick than anything practical.

Perhaps some day the new Chinese Schrade company may bring back the model 610 t. I could live with the Delrin scales as long as the blades were stainless and I could polish the satin finished blades to a brighter shade.

The knife you had was probably a 61 OT (Old Timer) shown in the first picture in a photo borrowed from...

...it is/was, a slender serpentine medium stockman, with a California clip master blade.

Once you get to know exactly what you'd like in a knife, sorta means you've reached the point where many of us choose to go to a custom maker to get all of those needs built into the same knife.

Case sounds like the closest production maker, based on the specifics you've mentioned (steel, size, shape, blade size...etc.). Maybe an 18 pattern stockman? But, I'm not sure about the half-stops...the spey blade isshorter...or if they make that pattern in pearl.
That's why we go custom, or get one of the guys here to do a rehandle.
