Got this one off Ebay last week. I was the only bidder, but it had a hefty starting bid.

3 1/4” whittler with brown jigged and worm grooved bone handles and a nickel-silver elliptical shield. Pins are peened.

Master spear, pen and file blades with overall patina and nice, audible snaps opening and closing.

Master is stamped:

TERRIER
CUTLERY
ROCHESTER. N. Y.


There is a dog’s head logo on the reverse.

Both pen and file are stamped:

TERRIER
CUTLERY

Pattern number on the back of the pen is 02/632, which, if on a Robeson, would be 632002, an old pattern, as when they initiated their six digit system about 1903, was the second pattern to receive a number.

This has been posted elsewhere, but it should be here, I think.

Years ago, an elderly collector/dealer named Mr. Shockley, told me about and promised me this Terrier display case. He made out a card stating that and wrote “$500.00” on it.

All I had to do was arrange a pickup date and drive to his home to get it. But, life intruded, S it often does and I simply never did that.

Mr Shockley died last year and his collection was turned over to Bruce Voyles for auction and that took place at the Pigeon Forge Knife Show last November.

I won the bid at $550.00.

Lloyd, his sweet wife was aware of the promise and knew of the card, she just simply forgot.

The extra 50.00 didn’t ever equal the appreciation in value, I don’t think.

And someone showed up at her home after she had contacted Bruce and talked her out of some high dollar Case knives. He paid her appropriately, but still.

I have discovered the Terrier tall case is actually taller than the Robeson tall case I used to have, save for the wooden finial that was on top.

I did not think that was the case.

At the Lexington show this August 16th & 17th, I’m going to set up a Terrier Display, utilizing the tall Terrier knife case and these two display cases, plus a couple of old items as filler.

I've never owned a Terrier knife but I found the early posts in this thread very informative. Such great knives you've posted here, but I had to scroll back for this one several times. If someone were to say, picture in your mind what an ideal pocket knife would look like, this is what the picture would be of.

It’s a 3” whittler with factory installed genuine pearl handles. There is a tight crack across the center pin on the front.

Master spear and secondary pen and file blades.

There is use and wear.

All three blades are marked:

There is a dog’s head on the back of the master blade.

It’s pattern number is 105 / 632 in two lines.

That “6” denotes bone stag handles, but they are pearl. The number for pearl was “7”. Someone put the wrong blade in the knife. I’ve seen that a couple of times from Robeson.

They weren’t making collectible knives back then.

Neither I, nor Lyle, have ever seen a Farmer’s Jack from Robeson. I don’t think they made one.

We have heard of a high dollar Montgomery Wards in suspect condition.

There is a rather hefty Federal shield for a knife this size.

It’s clean in the well.

Blades are both a bit short.

The knife has been cleaned sometime in its past.

This is a rare pattern from Robeson and even more rare as a Terrier.
