Melitta Tak (Fukuta) Sway Back Florist/Gardner's Knife. I bought this same model from AG Russell back in the 1990s then gave it to a Japanese nurse who was especially helpful to me when I was hospitalized. I then spent the ensuing six years trying to find and acquire another one. Finally found this one on eBay last week and immediately bought it. It feels like reuniting with a long lost friend!

As you would expect, the fit and finish is exquisite. Ivory Micarta handle with red G-10 spacer and all steel construction.

Unique and beautiful.

I’ve been picking up a lot of Coleman knives. Bought a collection of them last week and selling about half and keeping half. These tiny trappers are the show stopper for me. The stag is beautiful. The size is just right and the fit and finish is incredible. The Congress is fine too. I will post some of the other patterns in the future.

I have one of those that has been hiding in the catacombs deep under Mini-T Mountain for the last few years that I just dug up yesterday to check on and clean and oil the pivot joint and SNAP! the back spring broke when I opened the master clip blade
This the second knife of mine that has happened with (first was a 1974 Case Cheetah that I had Wayne repair). Not sure what to do with this Coleman though other than curse, wail and cry

That is beautiful Q. I like those wooden scales on that. I prefer wood over a lot of materials, just feels warm in hand.
Sorry to hear about the Coleman Mini Trapper. I’ve never had a backspring break on me in all my years of collecting. The only thing that ever happened when I opened a knife was hearing a slight tick sound and it was a crack at the center pin on a Bear and Sons Barlow. Sent it back and got a replacement, it was brand new and bought from a dealer. I always wondered how pin cracks happened and I knew after that how.
I think your replacement is a big step up.

Q, that Spire is beautiful. I have that one and two others and love them. Tried to pick up the one PCWizard had the other day but I guess someone must have purchased all the knives he offered.
I believe that Moki made those Spire knives. They made a version for William Henry that I have as part of that collection as well.
The Parker Top Lock is nice. I like the wooden handles on that one.

Don't be greedy, Mark, you gotta let some of the rest of us have a few cool knives every now and then too!

I actually did get the Spire from the recent PCWizard sell off. It's possible that he may have given me preferential treatment on that one because of our history. Back in the day, Gary (who used to also live in Hawaii before he moved to Texas and left me as the sole island survivor) did a lot of knife swapping back and forth. We did it the old school way: rarely, if ever, was any cash involved, just knives for knives straight across. Not only did he have great taste in knives, he was a very generous trading partner and I always came out feeling as though I got a great deal.

BTW, speaking of being greedy...I also tried to get his Kershaw Damascus Wild Turkey (which I believe he got from me in one of our swaps), but Gary, being the generous and fair man he is, let Orvet have that one which is only appropriate since Dale is the resident "Kershaw guy" after all. I'm just glad it stayed in the AAPK family because it means there's still a chance I could eventually get it one day

Glad you got it Q. I know you really appreciate these fine knives. I don’t begrudge him selling it to you or anyone, it’s his to do as he wished. Just mentioned it because it’s the kind of knife I am always searching for. No matter how many I have of these, there is always room for more. I checked after I contacted him and discovered that I already have one just like it, so it’s really not a miss for me. Happy to see you enjoying it. Congrats!

This is a Hawbaker muskrat made with natural white smooth bone and high quality ATS-34 stainless steel. Fit and finish is impeccable as usual. This feels great in hand, love the feel of smooth bone almost as much as wooden handles. Can’t resist buying these Japanese made A.G. Russell knives. It’s almost a Pavlovian response when I see one.

Thanks Tony. I know Glennbad does great work. I’ve used Muskrat Man for multiple projects. He put scales on a Japan made Paragon dagger blank that I had picked up and did a magnificent job. There are others on here that I haven’t tried but when you see their work posted you can tell they are also top notch. Hope this helps.

This great looking Scimitar lockback was made for the French company, Coursolle, in Seki, Japan circa 1980s-90s by G. Sakai - one of the city's most respected knifemakers. It features a handle made of Corian and has stainless steel bolsters and and stainless steel blade. Has great function and has the feel of quality. No sheath.

This is a stunning Browning presentation knife made in Seki, Japan by Tak Fukuta circa 2000. It features a Mother of pearl handle with abalone inlays and brass surround over the tang. The blade is mirror polished AUS-8 steel. Came with a basketweave leather sheath.

Thanks Mark ... the pics were hard to take with all the reflections. The Browning has that feathery, I call it, pearl with hints of other colors in it depending on the angle, but I could not get it to show. The pearl looks a lot like the Moki Pearl you are sold out of. I tried over a dozen pics and could not accurately picture how nice this knife is. Perhaps I should build a small photo booth with correct lighting this winter.

I have my eye on one of your Lapis Blue Mokis ... should have already purchased the 4" closed one(preferred) ... be in touch soon.

Tony, I highly recommend a photo booth for taking knife pictures. I built my own but you can buy them already made. The problem with the ones already made is that the lighting wasn’t right. Way too much reflection from the poor placement of the lights and too many shadows. With mirror polished blades the wrong lighting can really make your pictures turn out poorly.
The 4” lapis blue Moki’s are already sold out. I have the barbwire jigged in the 4” size and the smaller size. Just the smaller size is available in the lapis blue.
