China "Multi Tool" Pocket Knives.

Post by New_Windsor_NY »

Not too recently, this multi tool pocket knife arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I purchased. I definitely did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. It is a CHINA, two blades, sixteen tools (a file, a saw, a fish scaler with hook remover and ruler, scissors, pliers, a magnifying glass, a phillips screwdriver, a cap lifter or bottle opener, a can opener, a punch or awl, a screwdriver, another screwdriver, a VERY tiny screwdriver, a corkscrew, a toothpick and the tweezers), one tang stamp, 3 1/2" closed (not including the loop or ring), multi tool, pocket knife. The VERY tiny screwdriver, think eye glasses repair, is actually stored inside the corkscrew. The main blade front tang stamp says, "STAINLESS (over) CHINA" The main blade has a SOFT half stop, a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade also has a SOFT half stop, a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. ALL OF THE TOOLS open, close and function properly. This pocket knife does have a bit of weight to it. Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. A VERY minor cleaning was required. I took some pictures and here it is.

Among my oddball knives there's a SAK with less "layers" that has the same star within a circle trade mark. I forget how I acquired it. Victorinox SAK are inexpensive enough that I've had a few almost forever so, not surprisingly, my China SAK has not had a fair chance to demonstrate its utility. The only SAK that I carried regularily was a Victorinox Automotive that I brought back from Switzerland while still a teenager. It was stolen. The Automotive was never common in the U.S. so I wasn't able to replace it. Were your new SAK mine I would store it in my car's center console and see what it gets used for.

The "unknown tool" is used like a sewing needle to feed heavy thread through holes you've made with the awl. Some times manufacturers cut the hole in the awl itself. My guess is they needed something to fill that position in the knife's back and it was easier to drill this flat tool than to mill the slot often present in awls.

I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. However, it did get added to my "foreign born" pocket knife accumulation. It is a CHINA, one blade, four tools (a cap lifter or bottle opener, a can opener, a file and a phillips head screwdriver), one tang stamp, 2 7/8" closed (not including the loop or ring), multi tool, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "STAINLESS (over) CHINA" The main blade has a SOFT half stop, but it does have a GOOD opening snap and a GOOD closing snap. I obtained this multi tool pocket knife when I was employed by Ma Bell. I do not remember why or exactly when I received it. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. Ma Bell has MANY, MANY vendors and Snap-on Tools was/is one of them. I know Snap-on Tools gave out calendars, I had quite a few of them. But, I do not remember Snap-on Tools giving out any other promotional or advertising items. I have never used it and it has been sitting in one of my tool boxes for many years now. There is NO country of origin stamped or marked anywhere on this multi tool pocket knife. However, I am 99.999% sure that it was made in China. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, four tools (pliers, a cap lifter or bottle opener, a phillips head screwdriver, and a carabiner clip), one tool stamp, 3" closed, a pocket or belt clip, all metal, multi tool, pocket knife. The pliers tool front stamp says, "STAINLESS (over) STEEL" The main handle side says, "Snap-on" The blade has NO half stop. The blade does have an OK opening snap and an OK closing snap. The four tools ALL open, close, and function as designed. Overall, this pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. It did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

The hammer / pipe wrench and adjustable wrench multi-tools are extra nifty. ::tu::
I have a couple of similar adjustable wrench multi-tools but they do not have pliers. They looked nifty and were under four dollars 40 years ago. IIRC I bought the dublicate only because it was a dollar at a gun show. While I used one for a wrench a week ago, it only got used because I happened to have the box I store it in on the table to use other stuff in the box. If I move one of them to the glove box it would get used more, especially when the tool box in the trunk is buried behind other stuff. Small hammers are handy inside the house. That one could be in a kitchen or desk drawer. I've not seen a similar tool before. Without a project in mind for them seven inches is a wee bit large to carry on my belt.

I looked at mine. They are stamped Frost, China and surgical steel. While they're an inch shorter than yours they have an identical tool. The blade with a seratted edge for most of its length, a file on its back and a flat head screwdriver tip. Identical tools might increase your certainty that yours are from China to better than 99.999%. Their other tools are a spear blade and a #1 Philips screwdrirer on their back SAK style. They're thinner and have pocket clips.

Your hammer / pipe wrench is the best. ::tu::

Not too recently, these two multi tool pocket knives arrived in a group or lot of pocket knives that I had purchased. They now become my latest examples to be posted under this topic or thread. I did NOT buy the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain these particular pocket knives. However, they both got added to my general, "foreign born", pocket knife accumulation. They are both CHINA, one blade, two tools (a can opener and a cap lifter or bottle opener), one tang stamp, 2 5/16" closed (not including the loop or ring), multi tool, pocket knives. Both main blade front tang stamps say, "STAINLESS (over) CHINA" Both main blades have a SOFT half stop. Both main blades have a GOOD opening snap. Both main blades have a VERY GOOD closing snap. The tools on both pocket knives open, close, and perform as designed. One pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. The other pocket knife is missing a scale. That pocket knife is still in VERY GOOD condition. These pocket knives did NOT need any cleaning. I wiped them both off. I took some pictures and here they are.

Quite a few years ago, I found this multi tool, "rescue style" pocket knife, in the crawlspace of a house I was working on. I continued to carry it every day (along with my Benchmade), on the job, until I retired. Now, I carry it when I am doing yard work. At some point down the road, it will be retired and get added to my "foreign born", pocket knife accumulation. It is a CHINA, one partially serrated blade, two tools (a seat belt cutter and a glass breaker), one blade etch, 4 5/8" closed (not including the glass breaker), a thumb stud, a pocket or belt clip, all metal, multi tool, "rescue style" pocket knife. The main blade back etch says, "440 STAINLESS (over) CHINA" This pocket knife does have some weight to it. The blade (VERY SHARP!!) opens and closes with no issues. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. When I found this pocket knife, it definitely needed some cleaning. For this posting, I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

I did NOT purchase the group or lot of pocket knives to obtain this particular pocket knife. But, it did get added to my general, "foreign born", pocket knife accumulation. It is a CHINA, one blade, two tools (a cap lifter or bottle opener and a file), one tang stamp, 1 3/4" closed, multi tool, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp (VERY FAINT) says, "STAINLESS (over) CHINA" This pocket knife is missing the bail. The blade does have a SOFT half stop. The blade does have an OK opening snap. The blade does have an OK closing snap. Both of the tools open, close, and perform as designed. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. This pocket knife did NOT require any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.
