Trouble with a CASE knife
I have CASE XX #6233 Dot 6 Pen Knife (I hope I’m getting everything right) I have found this several times but my issue is the Shield doesn’t match. I hope yall guys can make out the tang stamps. I was using my iPad! FYI: I’m going to probably be asking for a lot of help. I won’t do it one knife at a time if that’s better…y’all tell me.

Re: Trouble with a CASE knife
Your knife is from 1974 and I believe this was the first year Case started using this type of shield on their Delrin (Sysnthetic) handled knives, as opposed to the shield with the ring around "CASE" you will find on the bone and stag handled knives from that era.Lady2Unique wrote: ↑Wed Apr 17, 2024 8:04 pm I have CASE XX #6233 Dot 6 Pen Knife (I hope I’m getting everything right) I have found this several times but my issue is the Shield doesn’t match. image.jpgimage.jpg I hope yall guys can make out the tang stamps. I’m COMPLETELY CONFUSED! You can see how CASE is but there’s six dots. The way I understood it this should be a newer knife. If so CASE XX USA would be entirely different….wouldn’t they?

Re: Trouble with a CASE knife
As has been said, the knife in the OP appears to be a Delrin handled 1974 knife. So the shield is probably correct.

Your best next move is to click on “Research” in the header up there at the top of this page, and start reading. You’ll find a section with general info applicable to most knives, followed by sections dedicated to individual brands like Case. In the Case section there is a tutorial guide on how to determine the age of Case pocketknives based on the tang stamp. And a lot of other information that will help in your education about pocket knives.Lady2Unique wrote: ↑Thu Apr 18, 2024 12:17 am I’m COMPLETELY CONFUSED! I went to CASE Research as suggested and studied the dot system again. I had read all of this research once but now that I have an understanding of what I’m looking for it’s making much more sense. And as Mumbleypeg had said it is a 1974. Thanks for suggesting me to go back and to research and figure it out and not look to others to make decisions about my knives.

Thank you so much!! I also went to research and read all of that again. It’s all very in-depth but extremely fun to learn the history and understand everything behind the beauty of these knives.

So many come here and want a quick answer, then come back again a few days later and ask essentially the same question, again expecting a quick answer. They have no curiosity nor desire to learn anything. It can be more beneficial in the long run to teach a person how to do something than to do that something for them. “Give a man a fish and he will eat for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.”
That being said, folks here are always willing to help if they can!

Re: Trouble with a CASE knife
Ok, I have been doing even more research on this knife. Well, on the bolsters, liners, pins, and blades. I’ve probably gotten it all wrong but I know you’ll head me in the right direction.
Oh, I came up the handles are Genuine Red Bone-Nickel Silver Bolsters, Liners, and Pins. Blades are Chrome Chrome Vanadium Steel
Which I also learned, if memory serves me correctly, is the best for holding the holding an edge and and easy to sharpen.
I will say my brain hasn’t been this cramp packed with knowledge in well over 30+ yrs! I’m an ole woman that LOVES learning and ESPECIALLY LOVES KNIVES!
If I spend this much time on each one they will NENER get identified. I’m going to be opening my store on eBay when I get all these identified and find information I can’t list that I know about my merchandise and fair prices to list them on eBay with shipping. I’m REALLY Hoping all of you can help me as much as you can.
I’ve adopted you as a Teacher!
