Hey John, I spent hours and hours trying to figure out the artist on these with no luck. I checked every data base on scrimshaw artiest I could find and no luck. I even checked with Gary Harbor a famous scrimshaw artist I used on my Case knives but he didn’t know either. I doubt we will ever figure it out until someone some day steps forward and says it was me or a relative. These are very well done and worth adding to a collection. Yours is very nice.

That scrimshaw work is beautifully done!
You certainly got a great price on it. I do not know the artist, but they certainly are gifted.

I think I may have solved the mystery of who the scrimshander MW is.
Going through & updating pictures of some stuff, I was doing belt buckles & noticed the name on this buckle: M.A.WILKINSON. The background resemales the one on the O.P.'s knife. The date on the buckle is 7/83 so he may not be active after 40 years. Here is a pic of the buckle & the signature.

Perhaps it could be, but the way this person made his M and W looks very different from the signature on the buckle. They do have similar strokes on their scrim work. I doubt we will ever have definitive answer to this question.
