Anyone Know the Brand of this Pocket Knife

Post by Gumshoe »

My brother-in-law inherited this stockman. It is 3 1/4" closed and has the number 53 on the pile side. The brand name - 5 characters - on the mark side appears to be obliterated over USA. He believes that the scales are walnut.

The trouble with Rigid is since the original manufacturer went out of business the brand has been sold and resold and the knives made in multiple countries. Fortunately none of the Rigids that were not made by the original company resemble the original company's knives so it's easy to spot originals.

Since this stockman is stamped USA I'll take a wild guess that it might have been made by Bear MGC.

That is one of four patterns of slipjoints made by Case on contract for Rigid in 1982.

Trapper:

The other two were a small penknife like a Case '033 and a mini trapper like the Case '07.

Cool!
It is definitely a Rigid, but I would not have guessed that it was made by Case until seeing these replies.

I agree, Reverand, I would not have made that connection either.

That makes it a Case 73087 pattern stamped Rigid. During the later 1970s and early 1980s I was interested in Rigid knives but I must have been busy with other things while Rigid sold Case knives. I worked 60 hours a week every week of 1982 and was more interested in target shooting. I leared something today.

They're quality knives, I think Canal Street may have made a few for them. 🤔 Eric would know more about this.
