Greetings All,
I just joined this forum because I ran across some posts for Marbles Hatchet/Axe information. Please forgive me if I should be on a different site but you folks seem to have a great knowledge base.
I bought some stuff at a garage sale and it had this Hatchet (cut off handle) in it. I started cleaning it up and saw the Marbles stamp. I can't find out anything about it? CN you help me please with any available information? Thank you in advance.

Re: Unique Marbles Hatchet Question
Greetings! That's not Marbles, it's W. Marples and Sons out of Sheffield England. They made tools, chisels, hatchets, etc. and I believe they're still in business today. Started in the 1800's. Too deeply ground and over polished to have any value.

Re: Unique Marbles Hatchet Question
I had figured as such, given this is a style of axe mostly carried on the belts of firefighters in Europe.

Re: Unique Marbles Hatchet Question
Thank you guys! One of the side flanges is cracked so I figured there wasn't any value. Thus I decided to grind off the rust. That when I discovered the marking. Thanks for clarifying the manufacturer. It's one of those things that I thought "let's see what we can make with it" sort of things. I do have a few knives in my collection though. Thanks again.

Re: Unique Marbles Hatchet Question
I've regularly seen those old fireman''s axes sell for around $100, and that's with obscure marks or no marks. With a well known mark like Marples, and an old one at that, it might have been worth quite a bit more, even with a cracked flange and rust. The deep gouges near the mark would have definitely lessened the value though if they were there beforehand. The head would have had to have been in pretty decent original shape.
