Re: Knives in the Wild
Maybe some kind of armillaria? Seem to pop up in the rainy season at the bases of oaks or eucalyptus.

Your knife with the light brown and subtle green color makes for a great photo with that background!
you are most likely correct on the mushrooms, in my limited knowledge.

Do some research but they may be the edible Ringless Honey Mushrooms.

Re: Knives in the Wild
Hey, John, where did you hike the trail? My wife and I hiked it in the NC mountains close to the TN border last Wednesday. Been something I’ve wanted to do for a long time!

We were out by Caledonia SP outside of Gettysburg kinda.
We also hiked some in Maryland and by Hawk Mountain in Pa too. Just bits and pieces at a time!!

Re: Knives in the Wild
John. One day last fall I put a Case Eisenhower on a pile of rocks, took a few pictures and walked away. About an hour later I realized what I had done and luckily we were going back by there on the way out. I was lucky as no one else came along.1967redrider wrote: ↑Wed Mar 20, 2024 7:22 pm Man, I need to start following you guys in the woods in case you leave something behind. Sweet pictures!

Re: Knives in the Wild
Cool, John! Since it goes from Maine to Georgia, there’s a lot of trail. It’s about a 4 1/2 hour drive to get in the NC mountains where we stayed. The trail was actually right across the highway from where we stayed, so very convenient. I have wanted to hike at least some portion of the Appalachian Trail for a long time, and although going up the mountain was challenging, once we got on top, the trail was beautiful. I love these two knives, so I was a bit nervous about taking them. However, it was just too perfect to get a picture of these in the mountains. We have a nice National Park about an hour away that has lots of trails and mountains (that’s what they call them) that we hike fairly often, but nothing the size of the Appalachians.
