Floating Fishing Knife

Here's a knife in my eclectic collection. I'm not even sure where I got this from but I seem to gravitate to things that are different. The blade was made in Japan. The name on the case, Walk, Haydel and Associates are an engineering firm started in New Orleans Louisiana in 1959. Frank Walk (lieutenant colonel ret.) who happened to land on Omaha Beach during World War II and has an amazing military career. If anyone is interested in history he was involved in the Higgins boats in New Orleans and donated a lot of his personal military memorabilia to the World War II museum in New Orleans. He lived to be 90 years old. I'm curious if anyone has any information on this knife or has seen this before, or any idea when it was produced. Thank you!

I've seen lots of them, often in old tackle boxes. Had one as a kid with a cork body/sheath. Can't remember who made it but it probably was US, everything was then. J.O'.

I’ve got one with the same blade stamp but a more traditional wood handle and scabbard like a samurai tanto , I picked it up a few years ago at a market for £1 , I got excited as thought it was a tanto I’ll see if I can find a pic as it’s packed away somewhere

I know what you're talking about I have stuff packed all over the place and am running across things I forgot I even have! Just found an old letter opener from Germany made by a company called Richartz. I found out that they do make pocket knives too. Should have known since the name is Richartz Cutlery Company, duh!

Rickartz is also sold as "Richards". It was a big company and was connected to Ireland, Sheffield, Imperial, Western, and Wostenholm. Not sure if they're still around. I've not seen any high end stuff of theirs, just low and mid level like Imperial. J.O'.

It's incredible how items like this knife can carry so much backstory. I haven't come across one like this before, but I'll definitely keep an eye out.
