I think a “dynamite knife” has utilitarian blades that are specific to the tasks of cutting dynamite sticks and crimping a blasting cap to a length of fuse.

While that knife will certainly cut dynamite, I think the term “dynamite knife “ is limited to another configuration altogether.

However, that has got to be a rare and desirable piece for any knife collector, but especially those that collect Remington.

That's what I was thinking Charlie. They'll be a Remington guy come along and clarify , but it seems to me it was a multi bladed knife in a stockman type frame.

In defense of the OP, it appears his post title was taken from the article he posted, - the article’s headline calls it a “dynamite knife”. A dynamite knife, as I know it, is a wireframe jack, usually having a copper frame. However there is considerable debate about that which can be found by a search here on AAPK for “dynamite”, with several examples including the Western 6494 pattern which has four sheepfoot blades said to be ideal for cutting dynamite. viewtopic.php?p=1096005#p1096005

As Charlie correctly said, this Remington example is probably an advertising knife. But it’s an unusual and rare one, as far as the company being advertised is concerned. The author of the article says the knife’s sheepfoot blade is for cutting dynamite.

This is what I was thinking about, it was a Western State knife not Remington. A large stockman with 4 sheepfoot blades.

“Dynamite Kives” are illustrated somewhere in Levine’s Guide.

I don’t have one handy at the moment.

Like I said, the OP knife is rare and collectible.

In referring to traditional pocket knife patterns that are fitted with sheep'sfoot master blades or sheep'sfoot additional blades. I may have mistakenly used the term Dynamite Knife.

FINALLY, I was given such a Remington knife years ago by a friend. Mine is well used but still a solid knife. The diamond shield is so worn that the writing on it can't be read. With no pattern number I was unable to identify my knife. The bail is missing on mine but is identical to the above.

At first when I saw the photo, I thought it was a knife referencing the 1917 Halifax catastrophe in Nova Scotia, a ship full of dynamite exploded wounding/killing around 11,000 people.

As I was researching Halafax Explosives, I thought I might uncover a macabre use of a similar sounding name in " Halafax" referring to the terrible disaster. But I never found anything alluding to any connection. The company existed only 6 years before being absorbed into a company with a lucrative government contract. It makes me wonder what the minimum order of this style of Remington knife was. And how many have survived. Thanks for all of the interest in the knife. (besides the 2 and 4 blade congress, were there any other pocket knives with a sheep'sfoot master blade?)

Yes,sheepsfoot jacks were a common pattern.

Is this what was called a " Loom fixer". Used in the textile industry. Hartford cutlery.

I’d call that a sheepfoot jack. Nice knife. Looks like pretty celluloid covers, so keep an eye on it and don’t store it with other knives.

The “Loom Fixer” pattern I’m familiar with has a sway back - more of a curved jack shape, with a bulbous bottom end. A search here will find many examples (keyword search can be found in the drop down menu under Quicklinks - the little three-line hamburger-looking icon at the upper left of each thread).
