Could not have went to better guy, very nice photo setting, without a doubt one of the most striking fixed blades knives to be had.Corn Creek Cutlery wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 2:06 am Very nice Valors and Swing Guards David R ... I don't know if one can claim just 1 Grail knife, but I can't do it cuz this knife makes about the fourth knife I've considered as my Grail choice, but I'll just chock it up to the more the merrier, or, you can never have too many knives!
Ever since I became aware that Hubertus produced a 10" model with black micarta covers I wanted one, already owning their 8" model with Rosewood covers. I tried ordering one from their factory when it was still operating, but due to unforeseen circumstances that deal didn't happen, and I've never seen another in that configuration since, until now!
You can find all kinds of listings for 10"er's with stag covers, but with black micarta good luck, they are the proverbial "hen's-teeth" find! Can ya tell I'm excited?
I was only able to acquire this knife with the help of one of my BladeBrothers on our forum, but they wish to remain anonymous, so if you're curious who it was you'll have to remain curious!
Hubertus 10" open "Slimline" leverlock with a SS spear-point blade featuring filework on the top edge, NS bolsters and lever, brass liners and pins, and the blade etch includes a "W" in front of "Germany" which apparently makes it more rare than the model without a "W" and denotes it was made in the 1980's! One cool knife!

Congrats Mark on that one, nice to find those hard to find ones. Feels pretty good when that comes together.

Well, I'm a huge fan of stag but I realize not all stag looks the same; it would've been nice to see the original handles. The Bocote wood looks great though and it looks like you did a decent job. As long as you like it, that's what matters most.AtlanticDave wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:05 pm This came in the mail yesterday with stag handles......nope! Replaced with some wood, called Bocote. Here is a before pic from the Bay. The scales were executed well just, too thick for my taste with this design.QTCut5 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 15, 2024 12:46 amWell, I'm a huge fan of stag but I realize not all stag looks the same; it would've been nice to see the original handles. Re: Mail Call !-Post your new pick-ups here............
I think it looks great Dave. I know how that thick stag on some of those older Japanese knives looks and I think replacing it was a good idea. Sometimes they used such thick slabs that it looks ridiculous. I like wooden handles and that has some nice grain to it.AtlanticDave wrote: ↑Thu Mar 14, 2024 11:05 pm This came in the mail yesterday with stag handles......nope!
