Thank you, Ike.
Thanks for the information on the Victoria Building.
I have NO idea what the premier collection of knives from Newburgh is.

That is, or was, another classic building. It is a shame that it too, met the wrecking ball. Interesting that Allen Cutlery had sales locations in St Louis and Portland. Makes one wonder (me anyway) why those locations?

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising or souvenir pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ETCHED P. CO., one blade, one tang stamp, a cap lifter or bottle opener handle, 3" closed, all metal, advertising or souvenir, pocket knife. The tang stamp says, "ETCHED P. Co. (over) L.I.C.,N.Y." Per GOINS, "Etched in L.I.C.N.Y. c 1933." The main handle side says nothing, but it has some graphics and a space for engraving. The other handle side says, "1933 - CHICAGO" and also has some graphics. Overall, this is pocket knife number twenty-six, in this pattern or style. My other twenty-five are ALL posted under and throughout, this topic or thread. This is my twelfth souvenir or tourist pocket knife, in this pattern or style, that features this particular event. This is my fifth, "1933 CHICAGO" pocket knife. I have seven, "1934 CHICAGO" pocket knives. I bought this pattern or style of pocket knife because it is a "cousin" of the Allen Cutlery Company, the Eagle Knife Company, G. Schrade and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. The blade has an ok half stop with no real opening or closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. It did NOT need any cleaning at all. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

This morning, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my most recent example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a CRUSADER, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 5/16" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "CRUSADER (over) TRADEMARK (over) MADE IN U.S.A." Per GOINS "CRUSADER TRADEMARK MADE IN U.S.A. c 1939-1940 A trademark used by Belknap Hardware." While it most definitely is NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. It is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925), the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), the DIXON CUTLERY COMPANY (1920) and the other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple, pattern or style. This is my second CRUSADER pocket knife, but my first with one blade. My other CRUSADER pocket knife, with two blades, was previously posted under this topic or thread (Wednesday, May 24, 2023) AND also under the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY topic or thread (Tuesday, May 23, 2023). The main blade has a soft half stop with a soft opening and closing snap. This pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. It did NOT need any cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is.

This afternoon, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is a Ulery U11, one blade, 4" closed, two tang stamps, one handle stamp, hawkbill pruner, pattern or style of pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "Ulery (over) NEW YORK USA" The main blade back tang stamp says, "U11" The handle stamp is the patent stamp and it says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." This is my second Ulery U11 pocket knife. My other Ulery U11 was posted, under this topic or thread, back on Friday, August 21, 2020. Per Goins, "ULERY NEW YORK USA. This marking was seen on an all-metal knife made on the Allen Cutlery Company patent. It was made by the Napanoch Knife Company about 1917-1919." Considering that these particular Ulery pocket knives do NOT make frequent appearances, I could NOT pass this one up. Needless to say, this Ulery U11 has suffered some blade loss. What remains of the blade, has a VERY CRISP half stop. Also, a finger removing, VERY NASTY, opening and closing snap. I gave it a cleaning. I took some pictures and here it is. The very last picture, from the NAPANOCH catalog, is of the various Ulery patterns available.

Now this style of knife originally was made by the Eagle knife company and later after Allen by Walden knife as well as others. It was an inexpensive design and a take off of the old penny knife( using metal handles not wood. ). This knife under the same patent was made for the Ulery knife company (which was made by Napanoch). Later Winchester bought Napanoch, Walden and Eagle. Allen went out of business."

Recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. This afternoon, my trip to the post office produced this, another ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) "oddity." It is my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest example to be added to my collection. This pocket knife is an "oddity" because it has a REMINGTON UMC blade with an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY handle. It is a REMINGTON UMC R142 or an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, two tang stamps, two handle stamps, 3 1/2" closed, long blade pull, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "REMINGTON (over) UMC" (inside a circle) Per GOINS' (1998 edition), c 1921-1924. The main blade back tang stamp says, "R142" The handle patent stamp, which is VERY FAINT and almost non-existent, should say, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." It looks like there may have been some graphics just below the handle patent stamp. I can NOT be 100% sure. The other handle side has a previous owner's(?) name stamped in it and says, "F. W. SCOTT" The ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knives with one blade, and with the same handle pattern or style, have three components. The three components are, the blade, the handle and the pivot pin. After comparing the pivot pin used with this pocket knife and the pivot pins used with my other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, same handle pattern or style pocket knives, I am 99.999% sure that the pivot pin used with this pocket knife, is an original ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pivot pin. So, this pocket knife is two thirds ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY and one third REMINGTON UMC. Yet another example, I think, of a previous owner combining surviving parts of two, completely different pocket knives, to make one, simple, functional pocket knife. I do NOT believe that this was a deliberate attempt to deceive any potential buyer. I can detect no signs of a conspiracy here. My other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife "oddity" was posted, by me, under this topic or thread, back on Sunday, June 4, 2023 (SHAPLEIGH blade, ALLEN handle). This blade does NOT have a half stop. This blade does NOT have any opening snap and it does NOT have any closing snap. This particular blade just does NOT match up very well with the handle. Overall, this pocket knife is in FAIR condition. I did have to clean it up a little bit. I took some pictures and here it is.

This morning, my visit to the post office produced this pocket knife. Yet another, ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) "oddity" pocket knife. It is my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest example to be added to my collection. This pocket knife is an "oddity" because it has "CUT OUTS" in the handle. It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that the handle "CUT OUTS" were done in the factory. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, two handle stamps, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." (the "J" has been "cut out"). The blade has NO tang stamp or ANY remains of a tang stamp. I am NOT 100% sure that the blade is original with the handle. But, it could very well be the original blade. The blade does have a VERY CRISP half stop, along with a VERY NASTY opening and closing snap. My other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife "oddities" were posted, by me, under this topic or thread. One "oddity" was posted back on Sunday, June 4, 2023 (SHAPLEIGH blade, ALLEN handle). The other "oddity" was posted on Saturday, February 3, 2024 (REMINGTON UMC R142 blade, ALLEN handle). Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD+ condition. I did have to clean it up just a little bit. I took some pictures and here it is.

Very recently, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. Another, ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925), "oddity" pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. I consider this pocket knife an "oddity" because it has a two line, patent date handle stamp. It does NOT have the usual three line, patent date handle stamp. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The handle patent date stamp, ONLY TWO LINES, says, "PATENTED (over) JAN-23-17" This is the first time that I have seen this style of the patent date stamp on an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife handle. The USUAL HANDLE PATENT DATE STAMP (three lines) says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." The blade does have a VERY CRISP half stop, along with a VERY GOOD opening snap and closing snap. The handle still has, my guesstimate, about 80% of its ORIGINAL, FACTORY APPLIED, black oxidation. My other ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife "oddities" were posted, by me, under and throughout this topic or thread. One "oddity" was posted back on Sunday, June 4, 2023 (SHAPLEIGH blade, ALLEN handle). Another "oddity" was posted on Saturday, February 3, 2024 (REMINGTON UMC R142 blade, ALLEN handle). Another "oddity" was posted on Monday, February 12, 2024 (CUT OUTS in the handle). Overall, this pocket knife is in VERY GOOD condition. I did have to clean it up a little. I took some pictures and here it is.

It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also became the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY CO., Boys' Pattern No. 01 (see the last picture), one blade, one tang stamp, one handle stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The handle patent stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." The blade does have a CRISP half stop, along with a VERY GOOD opening snap and a VERY GOOD closing snap. The handle still has quite a bit of its ORIGINAL, FACTORY APPLIED, black oxidation remaining. Each handle side DOES have a hole for the factory included "chain and shackle." I have yet to obtain an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife that DOES have the factory included "chain and shackle." I would like to think that there were some, at least a few survivors, but probably not. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. It did require a little cleaning. A couple of days ago, my trip to the post office produced this pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY (1916-1919), two blades, two tang stamps, 3 3/8" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO - PAT. ALL'D - MADE IN USA" The secondary blade front tang stamp also says, "EAGLE KNIFE CO - PAT. ALL'D - MADE IN USA" While this pocket knife is most definitely NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife, it DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE CO., INC., the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY and other cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. The main blade has a CRISP half stop, a VERY GOOD opening snap and a VERY GOOD closing snap. The secondary blade also has a CRISP half stop, a VERY GOOD opening snap and a VERY GOOD closing snap. This pocket knife is in EXCELLENT condition. It did NOT need cleaning. I just wiped it off. I took some pictures and here it is.

Yesterday afternoon, my visit to the post office produced this ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, NEWBURGH, N.Y. (1917-1925), pocket knife. It is my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It is also the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, one blade, two handle stamps, 3 1/2" closed, all metal, pocket knife. The manufacturer handle stamp says, "ALLEN (over) CUTLERY CO. (over) NEWBURGH, N.Y." The patent date handle stamp says, "PAT. (over) JAN-23-17 (over) U.S.A." As far as I can tell, the blade has NO tang stamp or ANY remains of a tang stamp. The blade (SHARP!!) does have a VERY CRISP half stop, along with a VERY WICKED opening snap and a VERY WICKED, finger removing, closing snap. On the handle, there is VERY little of the factory applied, black oxidation remaining. Overall, this pocket knife is in GOOD condition. I did have to clean it up just a little bit. I believe this pocket knife is a "One Blade, Barlow Pattern" No. 14 (spey blade), pocket knife (see the last picture posted below). I took some pictures and here it is.

Yesterday morning, my trip to the post office produced this advertising pocket knife. It now becomes my latest example to be posted under this topic or thread. It also becomes the latest example to be added to my collection. It is an UNBRANDED, one blade, one tang stamp, 3 1/8" closed, all metal, advertising, pocket knife. The main blade front tang stamp is the curved or arched style and says, "MADE IN (over) USA" The main handle side says, "Worden's (written) - SAFE MILK" The other handle side also says, "Worden's (written) - SAFE MILK" While this pocket knife is most certainly NOT an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY (1917-1925) pocket knife, it does come the closest to resembling an ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY pocket knife and it definitely DOES fit into the "cousin" category. This pocket knife is a "cousin" of the ALLEN CUTLERY COMPANY, the GEO. SCHRADE KNIFE COMPANY INC., the EAGLE KNIFE COMPANY, the VALLEY FORGE CUTLERY COMPANY and other knife or cutlery companies that manufactured pocket knives of a similar, simple construction. This is my fourth pocket knife in this pattern or style. However, this is my first pocket knife in this pattern or style that has any advertising on it. My other three UNBRANDED pocket knives in this particular pattern or style (the last picture below), have ALL been previously posted under and throughout this topic or thread.
