I see these IC heritage locos so often that I don't get too excited. However, I liked the morning sun hitting these on a cold, winter day as they rumbled past some flatcars on a siding.

Thanks, Tom and Ike. And I would love seeing an IC heritage unit sometime.

New & old........the Saluki Express in the morning sun departing from Carbondale, Il for Chicago, with a new Amtrak station under construction in the background. About 1 mile north are coaling towers from the steam era on the old Illinois Central Mainline of Mid America. The first 2 pics are mine, others were downloaded. The pic of of the old roundhouse at Carbondale was taken from one of the coaling towers.

Fascinating photos, Ike. Trains have the ability to get ahold of many of us. I wonder if it is true what the great Karl Jung taught, that is, that in modern times trains are the expression of the ancient archetype--the fire breathing, long tailed dragon. Fits pretty well, I think.

Thanks, John.
Thanks, Garry, and a special thanks for the Karl Jung reference.
Here is just an ordinary, twice a day coal train, but I liked the way the sunlight amplified the scene. Jung is correct.

Ike, A fine quote and photo. I think your distance shot is great. Over the open field to the train cutting through the trees. Evocative as all get out.

Awesome pictures and quote, Ike.
Incidentally, I've been doing some more layout work, still a lot to be done, but here is my most recent video of some old pre-war (1941 or older) engines and tinplate cars running the loops-

This is here in Alexandria. I just added the upper dual tracks, but the lower level is about 2 years old, mid-May 2022.

Hopefully it's sturdy enough for sleeping, Tom. When you visit you can test it out.
