Has anyone on here tried coming up with other members local to them to enjoy showing their knives & swapping information? Is this even a topic allowed to be discussed on here? I would enjoy meeting up with other collectors in southwest ohio. Our gun & knife shows are few and far between and really aren’t much good in my opinion.

My cousin and I tried doing three shows here on the Eastern Shore of MD. We advertised locally and here on AAPK. The results were disappointing, The most we had was seven vendors, and maybe 80 or so patrons. It was a free show for both vendors and patrons. I can't say exactly why it wasn't better. Maybe the age of collectors? The military stuff seemed to attract the most business.
The guns shows here don't do a lot of knives either, certainly not worth a long drive and the fees for display or admission. We thought about a club too but the show results threw a wet blanket on that too.

Sadly, J.O'., I think the internet has made it tough for people to want to get together and swap stories and knives. It's so easy to just sign on, buy a knife, and sign off, that people can take the easy route. I do most of my hunting at estate sales, yard sales, antique malls, and flea markets. When I want something specific, I go to the internet. Same way I hunt for guitars! Although I do have a pretty good group of buddies I can pull from on the guitar front! Thanks Kerry. You're probably right on the internet thing. It is easy. (I want to touch the goods before I buy but that's just me.) Internet sales have affected brick and mortar very badly.
I can't even imagine buying a guitar on the net. I want to play an instrument for a good hour or so and maybe take one of my favorites along for comparison. Oh well, it's a new world now and I'm just passing through. O'.

BTW: Here's an absolute peach, '59 J-45. Belongs to a friend's sister who doesn't play at all and won't even think of selling it. What a waste! Grrrrr!

Oh man! That's a pretty one. I had a '60 just like that for years, and ended up with my 'early '61 with a non-adjustable bridge. Sorry CarMan, we're not trying to derail your thread. J.O'. and I just have to mention guitars!

I was in two clubs: Mason-Dixon and Chesapeake Bay Knife Club. They were lots of fun and very active. Since I moved away 9 years ago, they're just too far to reach. I miss the meetings and the shows. J.O'.

We don't have a local knife club anymore.
But, myself and some other guys get together at a local tavern for lunch on Thursdays to talk about, show off, buy,sell and trade knives. Anywhere from 3 to 5 of us.

what if we started a virtual knife club and had meetings from the comfort of our homes? We could schedule free Zoom meetings and hold them just like traditional knife club meetings with guest speakers, show and tell, q&a and more. If it takes off, an annual traditional knife club meeting could be held in conjunction with a large venue like the Tulsa Show, Blade Show or OKCA Show.

I tried to generate interest in this concept during the pandemic but it didn’t take off. Maybe it was the timing or maybe it was intimidation with using Zoom.

But for me, getting out to some of the big shows are still worth the drive, especially to be able to see and hold rare old knives, and ask questions with the experts. If you are able, there are great shows in Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Missouri, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, etc.

Is there a place on here where big shows are posted? My son is stationed at Ft. Myer, Va., he is a casket barrer at Arlington Cemetery. So I could possibly schedule a visit & a knife show.
