Early Office Knife Bridge Cutlery Co. St. Louis 1902-1939

I would like to feature a early 2-bladed Office Knife approx. 4 inches closed...Both blades are stamped (Bridge Cutlery Co. St. Louis)
Goins pg.33...States a trademark used by Novell-Shapleigh and Shapleigh 1902-1939...I have seen this knife pattern; with the same design made by
other knife compaines....Funny thing most are in poor condition and seem to be defective...The design on the handle seems to be the same
on all the knives...I was just curious is this the Art Nouveau style?...A style that flourished between 1890-1910...Would the handles be bakelite?
Some folks mays say waterfall handles or plastic....
This knife is in better condition than some I've seen; althought I think there is a older repair on one handle...
It would interesting to see how many different compaines have tang stamps on these knives...

The scales are “French Ivory” celluloid. For some reason it seems this version of celluloid is considerably less prone to gassing out. You could build a fairly sizable collection of “Office knives” seems most Companies made one.

I hadn't considered the possibility of the handles gassing out...It does seem that most Companies did make one..
I agree that this design was the standard for "Office Knives" back in the day..
