That is cattle horn. It can be beautiful, but certain beetles love to eat it!
Pictured here is a 100-year old Humeson and Beckley that had some bite-marks in it too. I patched it using JB Weld epoxy, as the dark color matched the horn well enough.

Beetles of the family, Dermestidae eat the keratinaceous proteins of animal hair skin and horn. They are also called, "carpet beetles" as the attacked old woolen rugs. The larva do the most damage. The the material shed by the larvae can cause health problems when inhaled. Thay are used intaxidermy to clean skeletons of flesh. J.O'.

The wholesale and retail hardware house of Mr. L.C. Thompson,
at the corner of Center and Market streets, Pottsville, an illus-
tration of which is given, was established by Messrs. Stichter &
Thompson in 1856. Ten years later, Mr. Thompson became the sole
proprietor, and as such carried on the business for several
years, until his brother, Heber S. Thompson, became associated
with him and the firm was known as L.C. Thompson & Co.

I'm still fighting a cancer diagnosis from two years ago. I try to keep up here, so thank you for not forgetting me. As for this wonderful knife, remember that many knives are not made by the name in the stamp. This is a classic case of a hardware house knife. Bernard Levine gave me great guidance to study up on early hardware houses. The knives were made overseas and then had them stamped with their name. I did an article for Knife World on Tariffs that helps explain the origin of some of these knives. Yup, it's a rare one. Thanks for sharing. I hope I helped a little
