Here's an old ONB Barlow, 1901-1913 according to Goins, with nicely jigged bone handle covers. The blades are kind of worn, but so would I be after 110 years.
Lot of life left in it after a century plus. How many tools or other item can last like that and still function? Not many by the looks of the landfills. That's a good one.
Well this has become a fave pattern for me so here's a couple faves from GEC to show. 86 Spring Street clip,
77 saw cut Wharncliffe.

You deserve it I-Man! And as a side note I just picked up a couple of older folders with some sweet bone... I mainly got them for the bone ... it felt so good in my hand and at the tips of fingers.... I could not resist ... and I-Man... what do you do when you are choosing between a fuller not so worn blade and plastic scales and a more worn blade and sweet smoot old bone?

Tough call. The plastic can be replaced by the good knife mechanics around here. Or I go with the sweet old bones. Like you I guess.

Believe it or not, got the 77 Wharn new in 2015 for $105. Thought that was high at the time. Now it would be 3 or 4 times that. Sounds like a steal now. The Spring Street 86 was even less. 75 clams because it has a small hard to see crack. But no problem for a user. Less than $200 for the pair. Even the boss didn't get upset over those prices. They didn't cost me any nights on the couch. That was before prices went insane in the membrane. Glad I got 'em when I did.

Sir i have a knife that was given to me by my grandfather that was given to him by his grandfather. Growing up i often seen it in my grandparents cedar chest i was able to hold from time to time and that was it i was hoping you might be able to help id it. i can send you pics of it if you like .

Don't know if you were directing that to me since I've never been called a "sir" and wasn't any military rank. You didn't state who, but since I was the last post I'll say I appreciate the comment, would gladly respond if I could see a picture of the knife. And if I don't know, there are many around here far more knowledgable than I on the subject who would probably chime in and give you some of their wisdom on the topic. Just get us a few pictures and let the commenting begin. Gotta say the granddad story grabbed me and built up some interest. Especially if the knife is an oldie. Lets see some pics and welcome to the thread.
