My uncle Hobert Mead was an avid hunter and loved anything related to guns, knives, and the old west. He went home to be with the Lord in 2009.

Some time later I acquired possession of a large plastic box of Hobert's that had lots of knife stuff in it.

This is not all the knives however, as I have several strewn about that I'm working with in one way or the other. There's a line up of a few downstairs waiting for me to start blade and/or knife restoration. I have to admit, the box sat in my closet for years, and its only recently that I've begun to explore it's contents. There are several bayonets and pocket knives in addition to what you are seeing in the picture.
One of my first restorations was the "Old Timer" pocket knife. It had surface rust on all the blades and inside. I got all that cleaned out and buffed it up a bit and then put good edges on the blades. Now my primary EDC.

My next restoration (maybe better to say primary restoration) is a G. C. Company hunting knife with a stag handle. The tag Hobert had on it said "Traded for" but didn't specify to whom or what he traded for it. I had a hunting knife EXACTLY like this one growing up, and its entirely possible Hobert talked me into trading it to him for something. I just wish I could remember what it was! Well, its back with me now. LoL

The blade had a good amount of surface rust on it. All my restoration work to this point has been done through sanding by hand as I don't have a belt sander. I think the blade came back nicely. I did use the dremel to do some further burnishing and polishing. The stag was loose, so I have it apart to remedy that, and then I'll get it all back together again. Going on about a month I think of evening work snuck in here and there.
Another knife I got from Hobert was the 110-look-alike pocket. Its a Explorer fold-out with brass bolsters and pins. Needs work still, mostly buffing out of scratches on the brass.

I get surprised sometimes by what I find in uncle Hobert's collection. I had moved a couple pocket knives downstairs to the restoration line-up and forgot about them. Yesterday I was rummaging around through stuff and I ran across these knives which I had COMPLETELY forgotten about.

I can't be sure, but this thin black pocket looks like something another uncle (Murry) used to use to clean his pipe with. It's in pretty rough shape and would need careful disassembly to really clean everything. Still trying to decide if this is a "leave-r-be" knife.
Anyway, the adventure continues. Funny the things you get into when you're in your late 60's. Oh! A 1x30 belt sander just arrived on my doorstep! Wahoo!
