Kalinga!!! How old!??

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

In late 2004, Buck relocated from San Diego, Calif., where it had been headquartered for 62 years, to Post Falls, Idaho so it’s at least approximately 20 years old

Your Kalinga box and sheath appear to be from the 1971/1972 Classic Badge of Authority set, although the interior knife and sheath holder is different. Your Kalinga is a 401 model with Rosewood a handle. I've never seen a "Classic" interior design like yours, so maybe Buck came out with a recent set. Here's a link to compare yours to what I'm trying to convey from 71/72.

The link I initially posted to ebay did not go to the advanced search link I posted. If interested, search ebay under "sold" items in the advanced search for 401 kalinga vintage set or Classic Badge of Authority Kalinga.

The Classic Badge of Authority 401's from the 71/72 era had a more 'pointed' guard tail than the later 401's like yours. Also, the 71/72 Classic Badge 401's had black micarta handles. See photo for difference. The bottom 401 Kalinga is from the 71/72 set I used to have.

Nevertheless, you have a very nice looking 401 Kalinga that retails for $200.00 via Buck site.

Hello,

Your Kalinga dates from 1981-85 era.
Evidenced by the Rosewood Dymondwood handle scales, the squared off end of the brass finger guard, and the full hollow ground blade, which is 425M Stainless Steel.
All of these features combined started in 1981. Date stamps started in 1986, Knife and sheath stayed the same, with the same box, until being discontinued in 1997.
