Old case Knives and Forks date

Post by Jwirth »

Picked these up at a Yard sale I know nothing about them except they are Case and probably 1915 era. Any other information would be helpful.

Send an email to John Burrell (member name johnburrell) and ask him if he recognizes them and if so if he can tell you when they were made. John is a member here and is a Case family descendant. He was the second generation owner of Burrell Cutlery, which made much of the Case branded kitchen cutlery on contract for Case. He used to be active here but I haven’t seen any posts from him recently.

I think those were made before Burrell was in business, they have a more 1920s look to them. John has a facebook site now and seems to be there rather than here anymore. John has actually begun to use the Burrell knife facilities which were closed for some time and he is making limited run fixed blades and selling them through his FB site and he has been selling at Voyles shows in TN. He is doing quite well with his knives and says he is making more money now than when Burrell was making kitchen cutlery. I think his cutlery company and FB site is called "Top Flight".

Vey unusual!!

I agree with Gunsil except that to me they look more like pre-1920's with the cast pewter? bolsters. I associate that construction more with 1800's to early 1900's. So possibly 1905 to 1918 era.

I agree the set looks older, but was thinking John might have some insight into its age. IIRC at one time he was selling a similarly-marked set that had belonged to his mother. He may indeed not know anything about this set, but being in the business of making similar cutlery, and being a Case family member………..

I don’t have his email address but have communicated by email with him through AAPK. Most AAPK members have set up capability to receive emails through their member profile. John’s profile is one of them. See the screenshot below. (Here’s a link for how to find his profile) viewtopic.php?t=74071

That pretty much limits it to finding an old catalog that has the set pictured for sale.
