Carving up old Tom
Time once again to get out the steel and hit a lick on the carving knives. Tomorrow is the big day. Here's my 1880's J. Russell, Green River Works set. Going to use it tomorrow and pass it down to my son. Happy Thanksgiving and Peace to you all.

John, what a cool carving set! I hope that your son appreciates it, and I hope that you have a wonderful Thanksgiving! Pardon my ignorance, but what are the two things that look like wings or levers sticking out from the shaft of the fork just above the handle?

It's a spring-loaded stand that pops out with a thumb push so the knife and fork can rest off the table cloth, I guess.

Re: Carving up old Tom
Seeing your set, @Ridgegrass, and your story about passing the set on to your son made me smile, as I had our carving set out and was touching it up on the steel.
Our old knife does a great job carving a turkey and it is a joy to use!
I hope all of you had a great Thanksgiving!!
