New here, but long time knife lover

Good morning Gentlemen,
I'm new here but have had a love affair with knives since I can remember! I'll post soon with a number of questions and concerns but wanted to introduce myself. I'm old (not as old as dirt but close) 65, live in Jersey (stop laughing), have 2 kids. love the outdoors, hunt fish etc. Attracted to knives, axes, machettes and damn near anything with an edge!!!! I have a small collection of quality knives (some vintage) and too many users/non collectable knives to list! I look fwd to learnin g a lot while I'm here. Need the down low on celluloid and out gassing and going to look at the restoration threads.

Welcome to AAPK. You'll love it here. The celluloid topic will quickly give you two opinions. Once a knife scale starts to outgas there is nothing you can do to save it and it needs to come off the knife, sometimes soon and sometimes a year or two down the road if handled right. I have several that outgas very slowly and I keep the displayed where I can watch them, allow the gas escape without eating up the knife and eventually will have to be removed. I clean them every few months and continue to enjoy them. I have several hundred old ones in knife pacs in my safe that I check every few months, and they have been there for years, some 20 plus years in my possession, that are 75 to over 100 years old and they are as beautiful as the day they were made. Some people are scared to death of them. I love them but do keep my eyes on them. Western cracked ice is prone to gas along with second generation Winchesters and many of the more recent German made ones. I'm looking forward to seing some of what you have amassed so far.____Dave from Minnesota.

You'll find AAPK an interesting place with interesting folks to help you enjoy your knives and just about any other interest you may have, hunt, fish, pets, etc.
Your username made me think of my deer hunting years ago, when I used a climbing tree stand. 1/4" wing nuts were necessary for operating those stands, always had extras wired to the stand just in case.
