Here's a 1930's,"HIGH CARBON STEEL" (Camillus). One of my "source shop" friends offered it for free. It was missing the mark side bone and the pile side was chipped. I gave her a couple bucks for the cause and, luckily, I had an old, chipped, stockman scale that fit nearly perfectly. A little stained epoxy and I have a great EDC. The snappy blades are hardly used and it takes a nice edge. Fun piece. J.O'.

I acquired the Olsen not long ago from philco, here on AAPK. He said he'd been told it was made by Boker but was unable to verify that for certain. I haven't seen many Olsen folders, but I'm pleased with the quality on this one, & the price. I like Kissing Cranes, too & have several made by Robt Klaas two of which are large Stockmans. One of those is also a recent purchase from philco. I'll try to get a picture up of it in this thread in a day or so.

Here's the Kissing Crane I mentioned earlier. It has an apparent pattern number "30" stamped on the master tang but without "KC" preceding it nor does it have the Roman Numeral date code. I'd like to think it was made before 1972 when they started using Roman Numerals, although that's just my guess. But they certainly didn't waste any bark off the stag next to the bolsters on this one.

Man, that's great stag on the Klaas! Here's one similar. It has the old style cranes but I can't date it. The scales are actually a bit low at the bolsters. Guess it's up to the craftsman on each one. J.O'.

Total agreement from here. Case is ruining scales right and left, destroying bone and jigging and antlers unnecessarily and regretfully. So many I see where the cover has been ground in half to 3/4 of an inch in from the bolsters, clear past the pins, and for what? I want to see hafting like this, where there is less than 1/8 inch of jigging ground at most, to leave the beautiful bone color, or the beautiful stag as close to the original as possible. Those scales look great and leave almost all the jigging alone. And what cool jigging and bone color. Loooooooooooove that color and jigging and hafting. Classy look, conscientious handiwork, and leaving most of the exterior beauty ALONE. Great example and thanks for the show, you have a sweet one there. And the Kissing Crane you have there is a beauty too. Very good looker.


Ridgegrass, that's a cool one too. Love the scales and the heavy patina and colors. No overgrinding on those scales at all. Careful attempt to retain all of the antler they can. A pleasure to behold.

I ordered a Case Purple Bone stockman... It looked great, great bones .... then when inspecting the blades... the sheep's hoof blade is bent/off set too much and set too far over and won't close w/o pushing on it to the side and the main blade won't close as well w/o pushing the sheep's hoof blade over out of the way to the side. The main blade is rubbed by the sheep's hoof blade So I will be looking at making a return... a brand-new knife should not have been shipped from the factory like this!

Wow bud, sorry to hear that. Good looking bones for sure. But man the fact the blades won't even close is a deal breaker. And you're so right, what the heck was the Case Quality control person doing that day? What was up with whoever inspected that one? Can't believe they let that stuff slide. Hope they will rectify.
