Well I didn't know before what sort of knife to take with me while herding friedr's, but now I do!!

That is a beauty, and the stag looks like it is good and gnarly/popcorn textured.

Nice find and I look forward to information from the group here, as well as some tales of friedr herding!!

Hello GH5. That is NICE! Love the stag and style. Never heard of that name before. Popped "Friedr Herder Everkeen" into Google and it sure looks like you had a WONDERFUL shopping experience at your army surplus store.

Sorry for the delay-I had a sign-in problem.

Your Herder knife was made in the late 1960s-early 1970s in Solingen, Germany. They are rare in the US. F. Herder was at one time an extremely large cutlery manufacturing firm, making many patterns for other manufacturers and sellers.
The knife is a lever-operated backspring release knife. It's very finely made and highly desirable by collectors of German knives.

This pattern is actually the knife that John Wayne carries and "throws" in the movie "Big Jake."

Thank you for the reply and information bill, I recently had been told that the knife was used in the movie. Big Jake, but other than That information has been very scarce. I generally stick to vintage American. Instead of selling this, I would prefer to probably do a little swapping in the future.
So after I have this for a couple of months. I might send you an email and see if you're interested. Again, thank you for your time, Harold.
