Nice pair Kim. Like the sawcut and the splotchy spots.

Here's a Jeffinn recovered Schrade and a Voos with some decent old Rogers bone on Puget Sound.

That's what I love, hundred years old and great bones. Lovely era of cutlery. ::tu::

Not to quibble, but that looks like good Sambar Stag, rather than bone. It could be "stagged bone", but it looks like the real thing.
Beautiful though, a most gorgeous knife! Case can be hit-or-miss on the way they handle Stag, but that one is just right!
Thanks for posting it!

Looks like a 51549 model number on the partially obscured tang, Rev. Of course that's my old eyes on a computer. Would be a 6.5 if it was bone stag, I believe. I think Kim got her a winner there..

Kimzilla wrote: Thu Nov 02, 2023 1:56 am Thanks Rev and TMK. The first digit in the serial number on the tang is indeed a 5. I appreciate your compliments, I am very pleased with the knife.

I didn't really know if the knife was genuine stag or not and I honestly did not think to check the serial number as I really just loved the knife. Even if it was genuine stag I thought it would perhaps be considered close enough to bone as far as aesthetics go and it would be ok to share it on this thread. To me there's not much difference between bone and antler ::shrug::

I don't really post on or follow many threads. I was really excited about the knife and I just wanted to share it. :)

"Fact 5: Antlers are made of bone – “like the parts of any animal skeleton,” Cole says. All antlered animals have a velvet phase when the immature antlers are covered with fine hair. The velvet phase facilitates the growth of the antlers by providing a blood supply to the growing bone."

Is antler the same as bone?
Antlers—found on members of the deer family—grow as an extension of the animal's skull. They are true bone, are a single structure, and, generally, are found only on males. Horns—found on pronghorn, bighorn sheep, and bison—are a two-part structure.

Just a fun fact I found on the Net.

Perhaps you've already noticed this, but another cool thing about your #49 Copperlock is that it has the "floating dots" in the tang stamp. That style of dots in the date code was only used for a couple of years, 1995-1997 IIRC.

Fun Personal History Trivia Fact: I had a first production run midnight stag 51549L just like yours that I sold on eBay several years ago. Two bidders got into a bidding war for it and it ended up selling for $560  A very popular and highly collectible knife to be sure. Great score! ::tu::
