I just won this on ebay. No other bidders. Apparently the seller can’t read cursive. Also listed as 2250 instead of a 225Q So it wouldn’t show up in a search. Lol.

That’s what I do. Search “knife”. Then sort by ending soonest. Then I scroll through an hours worth.

I found this one that way last week. But didn’t bid, the seller relisted it dropped it by $10 to $65 I was the only bidder.
I’m happy because I never had a 225Q.

I’ll post better pictures when it arrives .

They stopped teaching "Cursive" out here in California schools for many years. They decided with "Texting", cursive should disappear. I could probably write an entire letter in cursive, hand it to a young person, and I bet you dollars-to-doughnuts they wouldn't be able to read it.

It would most likely appear as a foreign language to them. The "Decline of Western Civilization" I say.

It ended up being really nice. Looks to have had light use, but was grundgy. A light cleaning with a pencil and it looks decent. It still shows the flats on the leather handle from when it was made. These would get worn smooth pretty quick with use. Of course it has the typical grooves in the leather that were added intentionally for texture. Its hard to believe it was done on purpose but they all have it.

What a stout knife, and very thick behind the edge. Its easy to see why people thought they were for opening crates. There isn’t a secondary bevel. I guess these were sharpened like a MORA?

You use the pencil to scrub away rust spots or gunk. You can feel the rough spots smooth out. Then just wipe it off. The pencil won’t scratch the blade. It cleans but leaves the patina.

Eveled: That is a nice specimen. I've had a few of those over the years and I must say they were all in pretty good shape. Maybe they were surplus but I have another theory. They are heavy beasts!
When we left Ft. Hood, Texas for Vietnam, a lot of guys bought really big knives to take along, Bowies and KA-BARS and all sorts of big stickers were hanging from newly issued belts. When we hit the heat of the tropics those knives were soon conspicuously absent from view. My guess is they went home or got sold in a village. The old "225 Pry bar" could have had the same fate in WWII, especially in the Pacific theater. Don't take me wrong, I like the Q, but it's no commando knife and it's size, weight, and point configuration limit it's uses. So, IMHO, that may be why they seem to be in good shape. Fun to speculate. J.O'.

I think you’re onto something. It’s not a knife I’d carry very far.

My uncle hiked the Aplachian trail several times. He said there was all sorts of gear abandoned along the trail. He said he found several guitars left behind. Funny part was he found several chopped off toothbrush handles. Every ounce counts! Lol.

I've seen them described as combat knives but I don't believe it. The military issued Ka-bars, M3 trench knives and other actual fighting knives, not to mention various bayonets. Some lucky guys were even able to score custom fighters by the likes of Bo Randall.
The 225Q was and is a great work knife but, I'd hate to have to face off against Ka-bar with it.

Both great knives for what they were intended for, but for 2 different uses. Just my opinion.
