Anyone have any idea what this is?

Post by NorthernFound »

When I got this I thought I remember seeing something that it was French made--but I can't find that now and may just be mis-remembering. It actually folds, so I apologize if wrong forum.

Is it an automatic. Looks like it. Is there a maker's mark on it anywhere?

The design is a d’Estaign knife, named after the inventor. Supposedly the inventor was an Admiral in the French navy who wanted a knife that was convenient to use for everyday tasks but could be extended in length if/when needed as a weapon. Sometimes also called a folding Bowie knife. Most come with a sheath designed to carry the knife in closed (folded) position.
