Nah V42, ya still got 10 good ones…

I see this poll as a trick question, somewhat similar to “is the .22LR a rifle or pistol cartridge?” I’d place a large wager that most members here own a variety of different handled knives, on my person right now are knives with wooden and Delrin handles, and many others in my drawers (um, hope nobody takes that the wrong way).

I have both loved and hated knives with plastic handles. There is so much more to a knife than just the handle matls that it’s almost a meaningless comparison. Plastic is not an automatic deal breaker for me, but the rest of the knife better be pretty darn satisfactory before I welcome it aboard.

That said, I stand firmly for your right (and the right of any woke youngster) to choose a knife with a handle material you like. More choices in knives than ever before, and the more people who carry one, the smaller chance they’ll be asking to borrow mine.

ETA: No, the world has not gone insane. It doesn’t have the property of sanity in the first place, it’s just a spinning rock rotating around a bright spot.

Some of the humans on it have become pretty darn goofy, though…

Catspa…. I agree with you. Although I’m not a fan of plastic covers I’ll bet every knife collector has some in their collection. Uncle Henry and even Queen has produced knives with them. Not my favorite by a long shot but they do serve a purpose. They are well suited for hard working usage, but not nearly as desirable for collectible knives. For working knives I like micarta. I hate the so called tactical folders. I suppose they have their place as well but they are ugly as sin in my opinion. Stag, bone and wood traditional knives are much more appealing to me.

The only stag I use is in a fixed blade hunting knife 😎
I have to agree that Delrin is as good as it gets for a user knife. Stag and bone can crack if dropped on a hard surface, and I do drop my knife occasionally. Did you know that one trip through the clothes washer will make the wood handle on a Buck swell up like a wet book? And that tumescence is forever. If I had a choice between a tough wood like ebony or Delrin for a specific knife, I would go with the wood and take a chance on the clothes washer. Once it was ruined I would go back to Delrin.

Mother O' Toilet Seat, Micarta, black & yellow Composition, G-10, Delrin, Corelon, Celluloid, Kirinite . . . I guess there are a lot of plastic scales out there. ::mdm::

That is nice. I have a couple, maybe a few, bone and stag knives for special days. One especially that I keep in the pocket of my dress vest. But it is really more pocket jewelry than a user.

Years ago, I had to wear a suit and tie for work every now and then and I would pack along a "safe queen" in my vest pocket just to add a little class, ::hmm:: The Lord only knows what would have happened IF I had to actually cut something with the knife ::skeptic:: .... ::facepalm::

But in those moments, one doesn't want (a respectable Gentleman about town at least ::huff:: ) a plastic handled knife sullying one's wardrobe... ::huff::

Thank goodness those days are behind you. Now, no need to maintain such a facade, and you can carry any knife you want.
