I Would Welcome Your Opinion on These Two Old Ones

While poking around the backroads of NH I stopped at an antique co-op and got into a knife discussion with one of the dealers. After we parted he sent me a photo of two old knives his grandfather brought back from France after WWI. They aren't the kind of knives that I know anything about but perhaps someone here has some thoughts or opinions on their origins.

For both knives the blades are about 7" long. The curved blade one has a wood handle and wood sheath with inlays. Looks Middle Eastern to me. Notice what appears to be a cut-out in the handle (see red oval)... wonder what that is for?

The needle-like knife is decorated with three 10-kopek coins which are dated 1861 or 1862. Presumably it is Russian, or from one of the other Easter European countries that used that denomination currency. Note the barb-like protrusion on the blade (see red arrow). That protrusion provides friction to hold the sheath on.

All thoughts and comments are welcome and I'll pass them along to my new knife friend. He is hoping to nail down some facts or values, as he may be selling them. Thanks in advance.
